There is a pair of Zeiss Victory's on the sample list for about $1600. 10X56
My question is are the worth the extra $750 over the Meopta B1 8X56 I will be using them mainly for deer hunting, with my main objective being low light performance.

In theory, the 8 should be brighter in that you are spreading out your available light less. But, when comparing a Rolls to a Moped, all bets are off, especially as far a longevity and resale value are concerned.
Just a thought. |

I have some meopta hd binos and a set of RF victory binos. The victories are indeed better, but the meoptas are fantastic as well.
If i didnt want range finder binos, i would be content with my meoptas hds. I can see game in low light with both of them that i cannot see with my bare eyes. The victories give me a couple minutes more. |

What anything is worth is a very subjective thing that varies with the eyes of the beholder, so there will seldom ever be a "correct" universally agreed-upon answer to these "is Product A worth the extra $ over Product B" questions.
Is the Zeiss a better bino? Yes, absolutely! Is it $750 better than the Meopta? That's a much tougher question, and I'm not sure I'd be able to say yes to that one. Meopta binos are really good, pretty close in performance with the very best binos available. From a purely image quality standpoint, I'd have to say no, it's not $750 better TO ME. But, if you consider the total package -- ergonomics, focuser feel, form factor, resale value, etc., you might indeed be able to justify the price delta.

Ted's words are true. Thus, I can only add (as a tech) that some of the things which make an instrument of superior value go on inside, out of sight to the observer.

I really appreciate the information. I'm probably overthinking this decision, but would really like to get a nice pair of bino's that I will be happy with for the next 20years.

Sometimes, it's good to treat yourself to top of the line gear when you plan to use it often over many years. When you look at a purchase as a lifetime investment that will provide you with many years of enjoyment and pride of ownership, the price delta becomes less imposing.

Good discussion. I have both and Meopta are no Moped. But, get the Zeiss and don't look back. |

My $.02 - if you are planning to keep them for many years . . get the Zeiss.

I have been pretty happy with Meopta build quality, to be honest. That would be a tough choice. It really comes down to what agrees with your eyes (and your eyes change with age, so this is something to revisit occasionally).
As excellent as the Victory is, I would not pay the premium over the Meopta. However, I am about to drop some serious coin on the new Leica Noctivid simply because of how well they work with my eyes compared to everything else (and the build quality is superb). Now if the Victory makes that kind of a match with your eyes, then go for it. ILya
