I have been looking at USA made (quality) grills to replace my 16 year old Ducane. My current direction is either full IR or a hybrid with conventional plus IR. For straight IR, the TEC line looks great. For a hybrid unit, Lynx has the features I want. Problem is these puppies ain't cheap. Anybody have any others to check out? I have researched Fire Magic, Alfresco, AOG, Lazyman, Wilmington, Holland and Kalamazoo. Napoleon looks like a cheaper alternative, but it is made in Canada (not USA) ... which isn't that bad. LOL BTW, don't say Weber... they are now made in China!

Weber Performer on my deck, I think I'm on number three. I only use real lump charcoal it only takes one more drink. Well sometimes maybe two.
You sound a bit more refined than I Ric. Send pics of the new unit when you decide. I migh be swayed. But I'm old and not sure I want to invest that much in a unit that will outlive me. If I were younger I might say women excluded. I'm too old now and Penny is a helluva shot! One of my buddies and also my niece both think the " Big Green Egg " is the bomb. It's probably made in China! Are all of your weapons and scopes made here? 😂 Bon appetit´ |

I use Weber Performer as well. It is inexpensive and works great. I even have a Weber 22.5" kettle for backup. I am, though, considering getting a PK360. I think it has better airflow control than the Weber and a more usable surface. It does cost a lot more.

Rec Tec Mini pellet smoker - cook ribs for 6 hours most Saturdays, gonna smoke a chicken tomorrow, set the temp and forget about it, smoke a salmon fillet in about 30 minutes, will cook steaks, chops and burger at about 500* but I prefer the taste of charcoal Weber Original Kettle 26" charcoaler with a grill mat for steaks, pork chops and burgers - short cooks Bout $600 for the pellet smoker and bout $200.00 for the charcoaler IIRC These sit out on a covered patio so subject to some weather. Would be leery of leaving something worth a couple of thousand dollars out like that

I have some friend with the Green Egg. And I will have one. Cooks much faster than my Weber. But most importantly is that the flavor is outstanding. Some of the best tasting meat I have had bar none.

Thanks for replying everybody. I grill out often so I have about decided not to mess with charcoal. Probably will get something for LP.

UPDATE: I have just ordered the TEC G-Sport infrared grill. I will be configuring the stand off my old grill to use on the new one. It should be the "bugs nuts".

That sure is a grill! I tried a cheap version of IR a few years back and gave it away. Assuming this sucker is about 2 leagues above that! Weber kettle for about 16 years, Weber genesis LP for about 3, and Weber smokey mountain for a month or so.
I've been eyeballing a wood fired oven for a while but can't stand 1,000 or more to cook pizza. |

Happy green egg owner here, lump charcoal is the only way I will grill any more. I do smoked to grilled to pizza at 600 degrees, all come out great.

Don't ask me. I use a Meco electric for grilling and a Brinkman electric for smoking. Wrapping in Reflectix is necessary to get the Meco hot enough to sear a steak, but it works if not overloaded.

I really like this Smokin-Tex for a smoker but I would not recommend the grill I have to anyone it sucks . http://www.amazon.com/Char-Broil-TRU-Infrared-Patio-Bistro-Grill/dp/B00FI0737A Do NOT buy this Char-Broil model. Until I buy something else I will use my Lodge Sportsman Grill I like it. http://www.walmart.com/ip/14550452?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227000477977&wl0=&wl1=s&wl2=c&wl3=40969899392&wl4=pla-100445317085&wl5=9017953&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=14550452&wl13=&veh=sem I cant even imagine spending what a Tec or Lynx cost. I bought one of these about a month ago or so. Works just like a big green egg, but is triple wall insulated steel. I like the fact that you can take the bottom off, and dump the ashes. And an egg will cost you upwards of $1000 by the time you're all set up with the nest and everything. Picked this guy up for $250. Same great flavor as my uncle's egg. Only use natural lump charcoal, and looking at building a retort to make my own charcoal. |

OK, so I first started with, and still use, and ECB (El Cheapo Brinkman). Its at the GF, she has a gas grill. But hey, it maybe (somewhat) nasty looking and I have gone through a couple pans so far, but it still works
I upgraded to a Brinkmann Vertical Trailmaster limited. (not mine in pic) I upgraded to a smoke from Thermoworks |
