Here are some thoughts.  There will be a follow-up too.

Nice tee shirt. Only a nerd would get it, and -sadly - I got it.

Were I running a 4Xelcan, I would like that setup. I got a 1X/4X a few months ago and really like it.

Have you tested the Burris Fastfire family? I have a few and like them.

I too have a minor astigmatism in my right eye, so dots are not well defined. Bigger dots help, or range glasses that correct work even better.

Nice write-up. Much as I dislike Trijicon, I still favor the RMR for these applications. If I can find something I like as much, I'd start swapping out. I prefer same model/mode/operation for all mini red dots, and do not have that just now.

I wear my nerdiness with pride.

I played with the Burris Fastfire and I had some issue with the early ones.  FastFIre seems to be veyr nice for the money.

So far, of the miniature red dots I have tried I like the DocterSight III the most for handgun applications and usa a secondary sight on long guns.  To be honest though, that is mostly a factor of it having three separate auto-adjust modes (I talk about it here).  So far I prefer that to having to adjust intensity manually.

Which version of the RMR do you run?

I have both.  I like both. The dual is always on, but the dot is not well defined with any degree of astigmatism.  The LED is well defined, but you gotta turn it on.  Both can withstand a fair bit of abuse - or mine have.

Controls on the LED version are easy to get to (my singular complaint of the Fastfire) and they seem to have the shorting out issue resolved.

I thought there were three versoin of the RMR: dual illuminated, LED with auto-adjust and LED with manual control.

I like the manual control one, but the other two gave me a little trouble, especially when in a shaded location aiming at something with a lot of light on it.

Correct, there are 3 versions of RMR. However, the manually adjusted version will also auto-adjust for lighting conditions too. After you set the baseline dot brightness you want for the lighting conditions, a simultaneous press of both the + and - buttons for less than 3 seconds (longer than that will turn it off) puts it into auto-adjust mode.

I have 1 of the non-adjustable, auto-adjust RMRs and 2 of the manually adjustable RMRs. I prefer the latter. I personally didn't care for the dual illuminated version because I thought it was too difficult to pick up the triangle/dot in certain backlit and transitional lighting conditions, and I prefer the 1 moa and 3 moa dot sizes.

Good review! I like the size of the Docter!
