Is there a good AR style quick detach scope mount in the $100 range?

That link is broken.  Try this:

If your purpose is to have repeatable return to zero, you should really consider spending a little more and looking at something like ADM or Bobro.

However, if return to zero is not as critical, the two above will work allright.

If this is for a self defense, SHTF rifle, I'd suggest you consider one of the mounts Mr. Koshkin recommended. ADM, Bobro, ect.

No. there are good mounts but not quick detachable at that price point.  The good quick detachable mounts are BOBRO and LaRue and ARMS, GG&G.  (people have their favorites).

As far as a mount that is not quick detachable SWFA's house brand SS is reasonably priced and comes with the insert to use either 1 in tube or 30 mm.

The idea of quick detach is primarily applicable to using multiple optics on one rifle having say a red dot or an ACOG and also having say a 3-9 or 3-15 tactical scope etc.  If you are only concerned about removing a broken optic the fixed mounts can be taken off fairly quickly with a wrench or screwdriver.  The important part of quick detachable mounts is the ability for it to remain on ZERO when you put it back on. Simply removing to discard a mount and optic does not present the same need.

I wasn't going to post this, but it occurred to me that taping a wrench to the scope is probably what I will do. A box end wrench dremeled in half should fit on there. I am going to wait for a SS or MTAC combo to go on sale.

A couple of comments:
1) I would not put LaRue in that list.  They work great if you do not remove them much.
2) If I were to make a guess on the primary use of QD mounts, I would guess that it is for transportation above all else.  Some people prefer to carry optics in different parts of the luggage or have a separate cutout in the foam of a guncase for the optics.  There are several good reasons to do ti that way.

I do QD in case optic fails and I have to bounce to
BUI sights. I hate the 45degree open sights. I do run some 45 degree red dots, but I learned on open sights, and Mr. Murphy is an asshat when it comes to bad timing of failures - optics especially.

If I have no open sights under the optic, I don't bother with QD.

I will second the "there are options better than LaRue." I have had great success with many of the American Defense recon mounts, exceedingly well built, good return to zero. (With dismount, re-mount, plan about 1 MOA of movement. If you expect better, you might be happy, probably disappointed.)

On the less expensive options like SSALT and PERP, I have found the screws to be of softer metal than the more expensive mounts. If you don't do much moving things around, that isn't a problem.

Freedom is something you take.
Respect is something you earn.
Equality is something you whine about not being given.
