Does anyone have experience with these? Do these scopes use the same glass as the Razor Gen II? They look like the same scopes with a 1 inch tube and 2nd focal plane for less than half the price of the Razor Gen II.

I have all three models and like them a lot. They are, obviously, a very different design than the Razor HD Gen 2, so drawing between them would be incorrect.
They are, however, of excellent optical and mechanical quality and compete extremely well against anything anywhere near their price range. Vortex use the Razor name for the highest end offerings among their product line in each respective category. Razor HD LH is at the top end of their hunting scopes and, so far, everyone I know who bough one has been happy. ILya

How does the Razor HD LH 3-15x42 compare to the Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15x50? I noticed you had a write up on comparing the 2-10's but does not look like you had completed it yet or I can't get to page 2 for some reason.

As a generalization, I would buy a vortex long before a Conquest, for most things.
"Most" things. |

I prefer it to the Conquest. I am not fully done with testing yet, but I like the HD LH more than Conquest HD5. I have not seen the newer Conquest yet. HD LH is easier to get behind and the optical quality looks a touch better. ILya

That was a nice little scope, but demand for 4x hunting scopes is pretty low and all eight people who want one already have it.

Ilya loaned me his copy of the 1.5-8X32 Razor HD LH for a few months, and I must say it is an OUTSTANDING scope from all I could tell. I didn't really put it through its paces mechanically, as that's a "set and forget" hunting scope and it didn't belong to me.
I mounted the Razor HD LH onto my .300 BLK Kimber 84M Adirondack, zeroed and hunting with it a little. It seemed to track well. Optically, I did compare it head to head with my all time favorite "tweener" scope, the 2-7X36 Kahles CL, at 4X and 7X in various lighting conditions all the way to the last fading light. The Razor held its own against the Kahles. Try as I might, I couldn't declare an optical winner between those two scopes. I thought the Kahles had a tiny bit higher contrast in the last bit of waning light with both at 7X, but that is offset by the fact the Razor has a little more zoom range on both ends yet is exactly the same weight and length, and I absolutely LOVE the G4 reticle as an all-purpose hunting reticle! It has both thick outer bars in #4 fashion, combined with thinner sections extending toward center and a small center dot. Just perfect! On top of that, it adds BDC reference marks should one choose to use that feature. It's rumored that our very own Koshkin had direct input into this reticle design. Bravo Ilya! There is a strong possibility the next scope I buy in the "tweener" variable class will in fact be this very scope, I liked it so much. What is there left to say? It had almost everything I want in a general purpose hunting scope for light to medium weight rifles. It's light and compact, has great optics, a useful zoom range, and a very useful all-purpose reticle that is very visible in poor light, yet fine in the center for extreme precision shots, all at a good price, backed by a fantastic warranty. I only found 2 minor negatives with this scope:
1. The clicks were pretty faint, but again, this is a traditional "set and forget" style hunting scope. 2. I prefer a fast focus style eyepiece to a fine threaded eyepiece, as it's easier to find peak focus with a coarser thread. |

I think the other 6 are not willing to publicly reveal their identities...
All jokes aside, a high quality hunting 4x32 scope has a lot to recommend itself, but since it does not have any economies of scale on its side, I would have a hard time explaining to someone why it is a better choice than a well built 1.5-8x32 like the Razor HD LH or Leica ER5. Here are some other guesses on why Conquest 4x32 is no longer offered: most people who want a 4x hunting scope are not keen on paying for a premium scope when a Leupold 4x33 is right around $300, with a Weaver or two in the sub-$200 range. Another consideration is that of the people who are interested in a 4x hunting scope, vast majority of them never have an never will own anything but a Leupold. Personally, if someone made a truly compact and light 4x hunting scope as good as my Spectre 4x, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. ILya |

I know this is probably apples & oranges but I have Nikon Monarch 4 X 40's on two 20 gauge slug guns that are both at least 25 years old with lotsa slugs down the tubes. Love the 4 X 40's.

That was also a nice scope and it also did not sell all that well if I remember correctly.

I liked that little 4x Connie. Wish I'd gotten one, but not sure where it would fit now for me.

That's another classic 4x. I really liked the #4 reticle in it.
