I see that the scope is now in moa and I am considering it for a range /ridge gun . I owned the mill/mil version years ago but could not get comfortable with the mill system when my other scopes we're moa. Is this scope as good now as they were when they first came out? And is there any reason I should spend more for a scope I will be shooting at gongs mostly under1k

I think the SS whether MOA or mrad, is very hard to beat for the money.
Which version are you looking at? |

OK....? Don't get a SS scope. There are much better ways to spend your money. Other similar scopes do not have the robust build of the SS scope. By buying similar priced you will likely have more failures so you can buy and try more scopes, This can waste more of your money. There are plenty of scopes that have less reliable turrets so more shots are missed. This can lead to more wasted money. The glass of the SS lines, no matter which one you get will likely be better than the competitor of a similar price. No longer can you use the excuse that you couldn't see the target for that missed shot. There are lots of brands that carry a strong reputation from the hype of advertising. Spending money for high dollar advertising and not on a sturdier design can sell more scopes. It also saves the shooter money spent on ammunition from all the time lost from shooting, waiting on a scope to return from warranty repairs. There are many reasons not to buy a SS scope. Best bang for the buck is not one of them.

The selling point of this scope to me is the reticle and ffp. The turrets could be capped . To the best of my knowledge this and the NF MOA are the only ones that offer a retcle of moa increments in ffp.

Which exact scope? There are several SS models with MOA turrets.

There are scopes with lots more features, for the same or less money.
There are scopes that look cool at the range, for the same or less money. There are scopes with better glass, for more money. There are scopes with better-feeling turrets, for more money. There is nothing I have used that is more reliable or repeatable. I "assume" you are talking about the 3-15 FFP MOA reticle (found here http://www.swfa.com/catalog/product/view/id/113813/) and if not, straighten me out. If that is the scope, yes, it is great for casual target work out to 1000 yards. It is fairly easy to get behind throughout the mag range, it has very reliable mechanicals, and the glass is more than serviceable. There are scopes with better turrets, better glass, and more features; but plan on doubling or tripling the spend. Does that help?
