Recently won/stole a nice PTR from SWFA on Gunbroker through one of their no reserve auctions -

http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Sort=13&IncludeSellers=233297&PageSize=25

Anyway, got it for a good deal and thought it would make a good 30cal battle rifle being I'm still without one.  I have been trying to figure out what optic setup to use.  I have a spare borbo mount for an AR with a SS 1-4 in it... would that work or would the checkweld be to high?  (This PTR has the welded scope mount on it)  Apparently accuracy is suppose to be pretty good on these so I'm hoping MOA or better.  I'm still a die hard bolt gun guy but the thought of a semi auto semi accurate 308 is appealing....  Anyone own one? Thoughts on ideal optics for them?  A Nikon P-308 or M-308 has also been catching my eye.

What iron site did it come with Graham?
I could not find a solution for a 91. But that integral PTR may work well without cheek piece.

That is a sexy rifle. I don’t have one.

If you don’t mind my asking, what did you pay for the rifle? I had to stop watching the auctions, bought 3 or 4 guns that I didn’t need, never shoot.

But I do want a PSG someday, if I can find one.

I have a problem with tossing bids up and assuming others will pay more..... most of the ones I won, I think I stole in comparison to what they are worth, IMO.   RC - here is a link to the rifle - http://www.gunbroker.com/item/701676031

Again with what it came with and the overall condition I think I did very very well.

I'm thinking the AR mount will put the scope to high.  some extra low rings and maybe a low power variable may be the ticket.

For sure will do.  Got to get some ammo for it as well.  Don't want to shoot my ammo I've loaded for my FN through it, not sure how it will be on brass and lapua brass is to expensive to get chewed up.

I think I am going to have to pay more attention to the auctions.

Be ready to spend money!

I bought a 375 H&H a few years ago that has never been out of the gun safe. It was bought as an Africa gun, and I haven’t made it back to Africa. Yet!

Anyone not paying attention to the auctions is letting some real steals get away.  They have very nice and unique items they auction off, at NO RESERVE, and a penny starting bid!

you should be good. I was doing the 150gr core locks in a 10 inch plate @500. That thing trashed the brass too.

Don't they have a fluted chamber that messes up the brass?

I've read that.... best I can determine is to find a decent bulk ammo and shot it and toss the brass afterwards.
