Buck season started May 16th. I was out and ready before the sun went up. I did not have to wait for very long time cause the first buck showed up app. 20 minutes after I was out ready. Actually his was'n't a shooter, rather a terrorist. I have many pictures of him working my trees at night, but he never showed in the bright hours. He already had 20 new planted trees + on he's repertoir. Two years ago I had another one scooting around. Back then I let him go as I thought he could grow and look better next year. SO wrong... that cost me a lot of work planting 35 new trees in the autumn. ( later that season he was shot by my neighbor ) SO... I took him out at 5.20 am. I have been following a 4 pointer for three month now. Decided to go after him this season. Last time I saw him was the day before yesterday, when my wife and I was enjoying dinner on the porch looking over the field and low forrest in the rolling hills. It would have been to easy to get the riffle and go for him so I decided to enjoy him through the binos. This morning I went out early, weather was a bit foggy and chilly. Didn't see anything at the first, but then I saw the four pointer briefly. he was there, and then he was gone.... After a while I spottet him again at 155 meters. I let the bullet go and he went down immediately. It almost went to fast. Some times you can be out there for days - weeks, without seeing anything, you'll tried that. These two shots was not like that. Edited by Claus - May/19/2018 at 11:12 |

The only issue is that the times you end up hunting: Start and end of the day when the days are at their longest! Hunting round the solstice for a few days straight really takes it out of you (3am starts, 11pm finishes...) and if you get something late one evening, very little sleep indeed! |

Nice job. On a different subject, how is that Champion winch working for you? We own a couple champion generators and have been very happy. Been curious about their winches. I have had 3 of the Warne ATV winches break. Been running SuperWinche winches for a few years and have not had an issue with those yet. Will never again pay top dollar for a Warne. Next one that breaks, I may try a Champion.

Jason, a couple of my buddies have KFI winches (specifically the SE45W-R2 model), and they have been very happy with them.

I have looked at those and Viper winches as well. Both look nice. Champions are way cheaper so I am curious to try one. But will have to see how the superwinch does first.

I'm quite happy with the champion winch. Havent had to use it a whole lot though. Twice i have hauled deer up from a ditch and from a steib creek, once my Swisher roughcutter got stuck in a terrible mess of mud and loose mooresoil, and then i have used it for minor things but it works fine and is not picky when it comes to get wet. I have had it for app. 6 years.
