I'll admit, this is not a huge issue and may be due on some level to my lack of tons of experience with turret scopes....
I had a fixed 10X SS scope for a while but decided to pull the trigger on a gently used 5-20 HD. Great choice, but just a little concerned with the turrets. They seem to have just a touch of slop in them so if you aren't careful, the lines aren't perfectly lined up and it can take a second to tell if your at 1 mil or 1.1 mil as an example. Keep in mind, it's pretty minor. More like if you wiggle the turret a little back and forth it can move off the lines a hair. Normally I wouldn't care at all, but the lines are really tightly spaced to account for the 1 Mil revolution turret. It could very well have been the same case with the fixed 10 I had, but the spaces are further apart so it was easy to tell where you were. Has anyone else noticed just a little wiggle room in the turrets and being off a hair on the lines with the 5-20? I imagine it's virtually impossible to emanate ALL play in a turret, but just want to check. I'm kind of OCD with little things....It's not splitting the middle of the lines, more like just off a hair from lining up in the center. Thanks. Oh, and by the way, love the 5-20. I also really liked the fixed 10, but the glass on the 5-20 HD is noticeably better and thats what I was mainly after. |

Some of the SS scopes have issues with lines not perfectly aligned. It is a small but persistent gripe. Also, have you checked the set screw tightness? If those get loose, that will add a bit more play than when they are snugged down to spec.

Yeah, I tightened down the set screw to make sure it wasn't the issue.
It's not a lot of play, but enough to kick in my OCD. Does SWFA fix these types of issues, or not big enough to matter? They don't split the middle of the hash marks, but they can be off just a touch to make you do a double check.

On the play, it is a judgement call. Almost all turrets have a bit of flex, what is excessive depends on who you ask and which specific scope is being discussed. I would guess they are fine, but that is with no more information that your short description. On the hash marks, it won't matter unless you dial lots of long range dope, in which case you can talk to them, but the next one might do it too. The possibility of a slight offset is a function of design, if I recall correctly. On both, I'd say if it bugs you, reach out to them and ask. In truth, you could 2-3X what that scope costs and get something that might have exactly the same issues. I expect turret tracking to be at or near perfect, with "feel" a distant second - at best.

I imagine it's minor and not too concerning. My buddy wants to get one after using mine, so we can probably compare with his when it arrives. In the end, most of the time when I dial it falls in line with he marks, but there is a bit of flex and sometimes that's causing it to be off just a hair. Likely not a big issue.

I'm not familiar with the 5-20 turrets, but if they are like the 10X...if the marks on the cap don't exactly line up with the line on the turret barrel, can't you just loosen the set screws, pull the cap off, and replace the cap so that everything lines up? Maybe there's marring/indentations on the brass center post inside the turret that cause the set screws to settle in just off from where you initially placed the cap.

After playing with it more, the problem doesn't happen going up. Only noticeable dialing back down. Like I said, very sleight off from perfect center, and not really a big issues. A little wiggle and it's always centered. Just ever slightly off going down quickly.
