I currently switched away from Vortex scopes to Leupold as the optical quality of the vortex scopes is lacking along with their eye relief. I am pretty happy with my leupold VX3i's with windplex reticle and CDS, but with a bunch of new scopes coming out I have an ich for something better. The windplex reticle can be too thin at times.
I am not looking at tier1 glass. My needs are as follows Hunting long range scope 3-18x or anywhere in that range. Good clean crisp glass from edge to center decent eye relief I like the glass on the Vortex PST genII series, but I don't need all the tactical stuff. This is the only vortex with decent glass IMO. I looked at a Bushnell 4-27 forge scope and was impressed by their glass quality and reticle. My brother in law has a zeiss conquest 3-15 and that glass is very good. Would like to stay around $750 or below. I hear great things about the bushnell LRHSIi 4-16 and it can be had for around $750 right now. I have never looked through this scope, just going off online opinions. They say it rivals with nightforce. Looking for suggestions, would prefer a japan or german scope. |

If you like the Zeiss Conquest, you might look at the Meopta MeoPro in a 4.5-14 or 6-18. (And if you like to twist turrets, maybe opt for the MeoPro HTR series.)

There is a lot to be said for Meopta scopes. A good buddy of mine uses the 6-18 and rates ithighly, I have a the 6-24x56 and it's a great scope for target work.

Thanks, no one here sells meopro scopes and I don't want to buy something like a scope sight unseen over the internet. Any other suggestions? I am leaning towards zeiss.

You should really start your search with Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42. It is a bit better optically than the PST Gen 2 you likes and much lighter.
If you like Leupold, the comparable model is VX-5HD, although in terms of basic optical design, I think I like the Razor HD LH a little more. With Meopta, I am not that big on the 6-18, but the 4.5-14x44 is a very compelling design. Sig Whiskey5 3-15x44 is also worth a look. It is a very solid scope that should be more popular than it is. Thanks for the feedback. I decided to stick with leupold. I bought a VX5HD 3-15 with the firedot reticle for $700. The sale was too good to pass up.

I have never looked through the following scopes, but fairly interested... bushnell lrhsi 3-15, swfa 3-15, and the burris veracity.
How would you rate their optical quality compared to the leupold vx5-hd? I looked at a swarovaski s3 and it looked about the same as the vx5 glass to me. |

What sort of game will you be hunting and how hard do you have to walk or climb to find it?
I ask because the higher power you want, the bigger the objective will probably be and the farther it will stick out ahead of the front mount. The more sticking out length-wise and laterally, the greater chance a bump will knock it out of whack. If it's for big game, as Townsend Whelen wrote, it tends to be big. He considered a 2.5x scope more than adequate out to 350 yards, believing large FoV and eye relief were much more important than magnification. Elmer Keith also shot some critters at distances way past my comfort zone yet thought a 4x or 2-7x variable better than bigger scopes, for weight and size reasons.
