What reticles are in the Conquest and Elite?
If Conquest has the #20, its got medium thickness outer posts - not exactly "heavy," but plenty heavy enough IMO to be visible in extreme dim light. I have it in a few scopes, and if there's enough light that I identify a game animal, the reticle is visible enough that I can take the shot. If the Elite has the Firefly reticle, it is heavier than the Zeiss #20. Plus, it has a luminescent coating on it, so it glows in low light. it's an excellent low light reticle! If the Elite has the Multi-X reticle, it is thinner than the Zeiss #20, and I don't care for it.

I should have stated that I'm looking for a heavier plex.
I once had a Nitrex that I thought was excellent--then I took it hunting and the thin Plex became virtually invisible well before legal time. |

The Conquest is a bit better optically, and I like the #20 reticle in the Conquest better than the Multi-X reticle offered in the 4200's. The #20 is one of my favorite plex style reticles. It has a near ideal thickness of the outer posts for good visibility in low light, the center crosshairs are nice and thin, and the outer posts extend closer to the center than most other plex reticles.
On the other hand, if the Elite in question has the Firefly, I love that reticle even more than the Zeiss #20! it's Firefly-equipped, I'd be inclined to go with the Elite on that feature alone. Even though I think Conquest is a touch better optically, the Elite holds its own pretty well against the Conquest, and its not difficult to get good optical performance in a low magnification scope. In addition, the Elite has Rainguard outer lens coatings, which I think is a very nice feature on a hunting scope.

How does the Conquest compare to the Elite? Is there much difference?

I have zero experience with Sightron scopes, but I've owned several Zeiss Conquests and Bushnell Elite 4200s. The 1.8-5.5X38 Conquest and Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6X36 are both very nice scopes.
The 1.8-5.5X38 Conquest is unusually long and heavy for a 1" tube scope of its magnification range, but otherwise, it's a great scope.

The 1.5-6x42 Sightron SII should be a good choice for under $300

I've been lurking here for a little while now, but don't post often.
I am looking for a low(er) power variable for a whitetail rifle. I have located the following and am looking for opinions: 1.8-5.5x38 Zeiss Conquest 1.5-6x42 Sightron SII I am also interested in the following, but cant find any at the moment: 1.5-6x36 Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-5x32 Burris Safari 1.5-6x40 Burris Signature Select I am aware that all of these are discontinued. If there are any current run, comparable scopes in the sub $300 price range, please advise. What do you guys think? Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks! |
