I have a Viper Vortex 2-7x32 currently that I could use but I feel stuck on wanting a great 4x fixed scope for this Marlin 45-70. It will be used mainly as a woods/brush type gun with what I envision as 20 yards up to maybe 100 yards. My vision is not the best anymore and I need some magnification. What is the most durable, lots of eye relief, heavy duplex reticle with the best glass fixed scope that I could set and forget on this gun? No real hard budget for this scope, one and done!

This is the only really good one I know of.
https://swfa.com/ior-4x32-hunting-rifle-scope-6.html Leupold also makes a 4X. I don’t have personal knowledge of them. Both Leupold and Meopta make very good 6X42mm scopes, if you can live with one of those. Both are around the same weight as the IOR and the Leupold is less expensive. |

Good buddy of mine has an illuminated 4x32 Leupold on his 375 H&H and his 458WM. Great little scope! If you can find one, a 4x36 Zeiss Diatal is a thing of beauty. I have one on my sub 12ftlb .22 air rifle... Hello, my name's Scrummy and I'm an opticsaholic...

Karl Kaps has a nice 4x with either a 1 or 4 reticle.

Thanks for the suggestions. The IOR 4x looks like a great choice except for only 3.5" of eye relief. Im not sure if thats enough space to keep from getting scoped....

My single shot 45/70 wears an IOR 4X and it is about perfect: great glass, constant reminder of the caliber's limited range.

I had the leupold 4x on my marlin for a while. Now it wears a leupold 1.5-5x. I like it better.

I recently picked up a Schmidt Bender 4x36 with a #8 duplex and that scope is awesome ! I have only hunted a couple of times with it, but was seeing at 75-100 yrds easily well before daylight. It didn't seem to be much different than my 42-50mm Schmidt and Benders in low light. I have seen some more on ebay and gunbroker, in the $450 range. One issue is they are 26mm tubes. The guy I bought mine from gave me a set of Burris Zee rings that had longer screws for the caps, they work very well.
