Got to shoot a deer with my 1971 Marlin 30-30. It has a little Leupold VX1 2-7x33 on it. Leverevolution 160 grain ammo. Maybe a 60 yard shot, facing me quartering. Exit was below the far shoulder. Blood spatter behind the deer, and an awesome blood trail. Went maybe 50 yards and piled up. No trouble tracking it through pine straw even.
Wanted to double lung it, but it was getting jittery.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.
It is the same when you are stupid. |

Busted another one last week in a hardwood creek bottom. Maybe a 30 yard shoot through some thick stuff. 10 yards towards it from where I shot it, I was like, I don't even know if I am going to be able to find the spot it was standing when I shot it.
Kept walking, blood everywhere. Deer went maybe 20 yards. Then shot one a few days later with my 308 and precision hunter 178gr ELD-x. Hammered it, but was a little far back, so got the front of the guts on exit side. Deer flopped down and flopped for about a minute, got up and "gingerly" walked off field in the rain. Not much blood but I found it about 35 yards from where I shot it. Want to try another with the precision hunter. I sure liked the way the deer went down when I hit it. Beats it jumping straight up and running off.
