I have never shot a 40 cal that I enjoyed shooting. That is why I don't have them anymore. I have a 9mm Kahr that is my primary carry gun, and I love it.

A couple things that may influence your decision:
1. If you think you may wish to get different sights, there are various replacement sights available for the P series pistols, and I don't believe there are any for the CW pistols. 2. The P series pistols have polygonal rifling, whereas the CW series has conventional rifling. I like poly rifling in a pistol myself. Of course, you have better resale value with the P, and the CW is a half inch smaller in both length and height.

Well more time with the P40 and a CW40. I like the trigger on both. The CW is about as small as I'd want to go with a carry gun in physical size due to being able to grip it well. I can tell a difference in carrying the Kahrs now over larger guns in my back already. and I don't notice them as much. I do need more trigger time with them both to better my muscle memory but they will serve a nice purpose. I will only keep 1 most likely though. The CW40 will most likely stay in the stable and I'll move the P40 on down the road..... just to similar to justify both.

Good deal G; glad to hear you and the P40 are getting along well!
Yeah, .40 can get rather "sporting" after a short spell in a gun of its size and weight.

really rang out the P40 this weekend. Put another 400 rounds down range with it. Never once did it give any problems... however I felt that last 100 or so in my wrist more than I expected.... the 40 does snap a bit. comfortable enough that it is going in rotation now.... CW40 is enroute.

I am not an authority on carry of any sort, but my basic take on it is that if someone is so close I don't have the time to take the gun out, I can probably do more damage to the other guy without a gun. Definitely enough damage to create some space between us.
Still, until I move out of Cali, it is all academic. ILya

That's odd, as Kahr's list prices are about the same for both. I guess the TP models are starting to get too large and outside the niche Kahr carved out for itself and therefore aren't as sought out as the P and PM models. If I'm considering a 4" barrel pistol the size of a T or TP Kahr, I'm starting to venture outside of single stack territory and am wanting more mag capacity in exchange for the size increase.

From what I've read Kahr has pretty good CS... I was worried a bit about a used one in 40 with the horror stories you can find but when I called their CS they said they'd warranty the gun if there was any issue even if it was not the original owner.

The polymer TP models are in the 300 range where the polymer P models are in the 400 to 500 range. Thought that was weird. Supply and demand I guess. Sadly I want the slightly smaller P model as the TP models are not much different than my XD service that I carry most of the time.

The polymer frames can be picked up fairly cheap. I just got a cw40 (wanted to keep mags the same and interchangeable) on GB that ended. In both the p40 and cw40 I will have both with total investment under $550.00 If they continue to impress me I might go for a non polymer frame Kahr for fun too but not any time soon. RD has so many I was hoping he'd just send me one to keep operational for him |

UPdated - The p40 shoots well. I'm happy with the way it points, weight, accuracy, and the trigger is growing on my well. I put 100 rounds of my carry ammo through it with no hiccups and will put another few hundred before it hits the carry rotation. I also decided being I was out and about at a gun shop to look at the cw series. They feel good too. Slightly smaller but felt more secure in my hand than say the G43 or G42... thinking I'll pick one up of those too.

Yes sir, and I thought your post was outstanding, Semo! It was an excellent reminder/wake-up call that illustrates that sometimes despite our best intentions and precautions, bad things can still happen. The hope is we can all learn from one another's mistakes and avoid repeating them. I'm really glad that no serious injury resulted from that incident buddy!

Guys,
I take no offense to any comments of my ND and it was a ND. The pocket knife is a typical defensive clip type knife. I had stuck the holstered gun in my right front pocket many times before with the knife clipped to the pocket. I thought the holster I was using protected the trigger. I was wrong. I shared my story because it might prevent someone else from making the same mistake.

By the way, please understand that none of the above is meant as a criticism of SVT or Semo in any way. I have no doubt that both are very safe, conscientious guys.
The point is, mistakes happen. To err is human. It’s always better to employ superior methods that help you mitigate mistakes, especially when there is no disadvantage to doing so. |

The reasons for always using a properly designed pocket holster when pocket carrying a pistol goes beyond just safeguarding against NDs. It also prevents lint or other objects/debris in your pocket from entering the muzzle, collecting inside the slide, etc. It also provides a square outline in your pocket that looks “wallet-like,” to avoid “printing.” It prevents your pistol from sliding around and altering orientation within your pocket, further enhancing safety. Finally, it helps shield your gun from sweat.
The fact is, the event described with ND would be highly improbable if not impossible with a stiff (not soft), thick leather or Kydex pocket holster that completely covers the trigger guard and has good pistol retention. Everyone has their own comfort zone with respect to carry method, but there is no doubt that pocket carry is much safer when using a properly designed, stiff holster that completely covers the trigger guard and prevents your gun from shifting around in your pocket, in the same way that it’s safer to always use a holster with any other carry method. |
