I have a 2.2-9 x 42 L and it is an excellent scope. It is FFP and in low light lets me sight in on pretty much anything I can pick up in my 7 x 42 Zeiss binoculars.
My best Leupold scopes are VariX III, so that comparison is not valid.

I would have thought the Kahles would knock the spots off the Leupold. I where I'd put my money...

Welcome to the OT Mitch. There should be no contest between the 2. The Kahles is the better scope, even if they were the same objective. The 56mm objective Kahles over the 50mm on the Leupold will help even more. I have 2 of the 3i Leupold scopes and was never impressed in them because of the lack of contrast. On the other hand my Cl 3-10 Kahles is the best low light scope that I have ever had.

Any thoughts or personal comparison of an old kahles helia L 3-12x56 vs a Leopold vx-3i 3.5-10x50? Which would be better in low light? Side by side for me seems the old kahles is still better than the Leopold.
