So putting together a savage axis in 204. Will be a calling rifle for coyotes. Weight is a consideration and given we call at night allot illumination is wanted. Sub $400 if possible. Considered a swfa ultralight but not sure I'll be happy forgoing illumination. Thoughts, suggestions? Will be used in conjunction with red and green lights weapon lights.

Got other weapon systems set up for that....... and this is also going to be a gift for a friend...... and a decent NV setup would kill that $400 budget way out......

With new scopes, Hawke Endurance 3-12x50 might be worth a look.
If you want something with less magnification Burris MTAC 1.5-6x42 is worth a look and I think there is one on the samplelist. ILya

I bet this would bust some coyotes at night. I've run 1-4 Accupoint and Aimpoint 9000L too but those are probably too expensive. A good 6x42 or 1-4 or 2-7 like the Redfield 2-7 might be what you want if you dont like a red dot. Bushnell used to make a really nice low price 1-4 illuminated but when they realized what a great scope it was they quit making it.

I have the Aimpoint hunter H30 on a CZ550 .375 H&H Magnum. The H30 is just a bit newer version of the 9000... a little more "streamlined". It is a very good choice, for me. The H30 has about 50000 hours of battery life, which I believe is the same as the 9000. I'm considering getting a 3x magnifier for it, but other than that, I find it outstanding for my purposes... when I got it, i never intended to shoot beyond 300 yards with it, mostly in the 75-200 range. It could do quite well out to 500 with the magnifier... can still be pressed that far, but the magnifier would make it easier. I've actually fired more rounds at 500 yards than at 300 yards with it.

I have the 9000L on a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun and was planning on doing the same for a Ruger #1 in 375 H&H. The 9000L is just like any Aimpoint and I find it very familiar and effective on the Guide Gun, which is intended to be a brush gun.
It is clunkier looking than the H30L, which may be a better option for the Ruger. 9000L is considerably cheaper though and can be had closer to the OP's price point.

No aspersions on the 9000 and no suggestion to get the H30 instead. I got a great deal on the H30 on the samplelist and it "fit" the style of the rifle better than the 9000. Other than external design features(and cost), I can't find much difference between the 9000 and the H30. Performance-wise, they appear to be the same.

I have two of them one on an AR Pistol 10.5 and one on a Ruger bolt action 7.62x39 I really like the 9000L because it will mount low using 30mm scope rings where most red dots are higher. The 9000L seems to work just as well as the Comp M4 and M4s that I have had but the advantage of the 9000L is that the longer tube gives a low mount application with a very solid mount using two 30mm rings. It's fast and if the dot is on it you will hit it.
