Specifically the model Leupold VX-6HD 3-18x50mm FireDot Duplex Scope 171572
SKU 171572-Leupold How is tracking and quality? Thinking of getting one for my MKV 30-378 KCR. It is wearing a SWFA 3x15x44mm FFP mil quad currently. How does it compare? Thanks |

Gotta LOVE Roy Weatherby's philosophy... bigger bullets much, much faster than the world generally believes advisable...
I have a Champlin Custom 378 Weatherby Magnum and have OFTEN considered getting a 30-378. I understand the 30-378 is far and away the most accurate 30 Caliber rifle available. The VX6 line is a very good effort by Leupold. I really like the FireDot reticle for hunting.

Big bore's kill deader than dead..... so I'm told.
As far as the original question.... I have a VX5 and its glass to my eyes does seem clearer and of higher quality than the SS 3-15. I think both are very serviceable optics and you'll get better glass with the VX6 but you'll also pay for that as well. Both tracked fine for me and neither have gave me a hiccup of trouble.

I don't think the VX6 will do any more than the 3-15 but you will see a clearer picture with the VX6.... that said keep both... buy another gun for the 3-15 to stay on...... |

I have a 2-12x VX6. Its a great scope IMO. I have it on a 300 wsm. We have ran it to 800 yards and back at every 100 yards inbetween multiple times and it have tracked consistently. A few years back during a deer hunt, we got bored mid day and was sitting over a huge flat. We started ranging and shooting rocks out to 900ish with the 6.5 creed and the 300 wsm. My dad dialed it dope for rocks from 200 to 700 yards and hit everything well. Optics wise, they are good IMO. Easily gets you well past legal hunting times.

well I have to sell the 3x15 to afford the vxHD6. This is why I asked if it was a move up in tracking and glass quality

I know the turret only turns 2 revolutions. Does anyone know what is the max elevation one can compensate for in those 2 turns?

Each turn is 20 MOA. So you can get up to 40 total.
