She loves it.  She uses it a lot more than her big D750.  She takes it with us on the road and Teryx all the time.  I bought her a 300mm lens for it for Christmas (ILya helped me out there).  It is so compact its just much easier to take with us.

Very nice! Is that with your new 50/1.8 lens?

Always a good plan to get a good fast 50-ish prime. They usually are less expensive than other fast primes and are really useful.

Skylar when half the frame is blacked out the most likely fault is that it is not sync with the flash try altering the shutter speed or switching program mode to aperture priority.  I miss the fully manual cameras then I knew what I was going to get based on balancing the light sources and the shutter always triggered when I pressed the release.  I always had to carry two or three camera bodies.

Regarding out of focus points of light note that the out of focus highlight takes on the shape of the maximum aperture of the lens. I used to take a  f2.8  135mm lens aperture wide open then place a black plastic mask with a heart shape cut out in front of the lens on a  UV filter so now the maximum shape of the aperture is heart shaped and every out of focus high light (Christmas Light, candle, street light) became heart shape while the rest of the image remained as you would expect it to normally be.

Also note when photographing glass objects the reflection of the shape of the light can also be altered for creative effect.  One can take a softbox place a black scrim in whatever shape they choose in front of the softbox now that is the shape of the light.  At Haloween it can be ghost shape, at Christmas it could be the shape of a Christmas tree or a cross. Could be a trademark etc.  The resulting image will have any glasses like a wine glass or wine bottle etc reflecting that shape in the resulting image.

One Commercial Image I made  used multiple light sources one of which was a light below the glass of beer shining up through a piece of glass covered with background paper and a hole cut out for the light to shine upward making the beer appear to glow while a softbox to the side was the main light and a reflector pannel from the other side.

Hope you find a use for these tidbits of information sometime.
Wes
