looking to buy this used marlin 336 and mounting my Burris fullfield on it. Any thoughts? Overkill? Is the max distance on a 30/30 recommended to be inside the 175 yard line for deer hunting? Thnx 👍

it should be fine... but it really depends on where you hunt and how you hunt.  how far are most of your shots?   that sort of thing.
take em!

my spot is in a pretty woody area but have decent clear lines of sight where the deer tend to cross at about 50-80 yards, then another spot in a corn field at maximum 200 yards.

It is not a very big scope, so it should work just fine.

With moderately inexpensive scopes, I really like Burris' 2-7x35 and 3-9x40 Fullfield II variants.  THey are generally durable reasonably decent optically, given the price.

thnx for the feed back. Just got the marlin 336 Cs in 30/30... 1988 jm stamped. My God what a smooth action piece of work.. such a joy to shoot.. picked it up for a steal! $450 came also with doe call, compass, orange vest,  leather cartridge belt, leather sling, mounted bushnell scope with higher rings so you can still use the iron sights. ( forgot the specs on the scope not as big as my fullfield but does the job at 80 yards ) 70 rounds of 30/30, cleaning kit, hard case, PLUS a cooey 600 in .22 with soft case... what a find!
