I'm looking at getting a Trijicon Accupoint 1-6 for my Smith and Wesson M&P10.  I am trying to set this up for a close range whitetail rifle. I'm talking 20 to 200 yards max, with 90% of my shots within 120 yards.  Would the accupoint be a good choice, or are there other scopes that are better for that price? Also, would the post and triangle reticle be precise enough to shoot out to 200 yards occasionally? Finally, do I need the 1-6 power, or would I be ok saving some money and getting a 1-4? Thank you.

The tip of the triangle is actually a very fine aiming point, so in that regard it will work well for you.  I have the 1-4x with a triangle and an ACOG wit the triangle and they work well.

The 1-4x is a great optic and I shoot mine past 200 yards all the time.  But 6x would indeed make that nicer.  If I were to buy again, I would get the 1-6x just because it would make it more versatile.   The 1-6 was not available when I bought mine.

Another one to consider is the SWFA HD 1-6x.  Very good optic.

I'm also in the market for a 1-6 Trijicon Accupoint.

My concern is how bright is the dot on the duplex model. I'm hoping it's super Aimpoint bright and if it blooms big in the sun that's even better.

As to the original poster ...

I own the TR24 (1-4) with Amber Triangle. I use it primarily for competition. It is crazy fast up close with the bright triangle. The tip is a very good for precise aiming assuming you use a point-blank-zero. That is, you aren't concerned with drop. If you are trying to shoot small things at long distance, it becomes tough as the triangle obscures the target. For example...clay pigeons or small steel plates at 200+ meters.

Another big advantage is that the TR24 is very light compared to other 1-4's.

The 1-6 is heavier. BUT...the 1-6 has a whopping 117 ft field of view compared to 94 ft of the 1-4. That is a huge difference. If you plan to use this on 1x a lot....either for action shooting or on moving targets, that field of view should not be underestimated. I'm not an expert, but off the top of my head the only scope I know that has more FOV is the Swarovski which is considerably more expensive.

The 1-6x Trijicon is a newer and better design.  Go with that.

1-6 should be a great choice. I have had the 1-5 red post for quite a while and really like it.  I have a compact ACOG with the amber triangle but I prefer the red color.
