Just received this:
I just opened the box on my breakfast table, took a few pictures and did some preliminary investigation. So far, it is pretty impressive. Adjustments are tactile and audible... very distinct, diopter focus adjustment is excellent, glass clarity is very good, parallax adjustment is smooth and very good. Trying to decide which rifle to start it out on for a full test and review which will be in the Members Tests and Reviews section. The scope comes with sun shield and "see through" lens covers as shown in the pictures. Performance is everything, but I like what I've seen of it so far. The manual (online) details a nice zero stop feature I am anxious to play around with. Should be a fun test.

You should send it to me for testing. I have an AR10 it could fit on.

I have one, plus an FNH FNAR, several .308s... however, I'm starting out with 7mmSTW. Mounted and boresighted. The ZeroStop is excellent... easy to "set" and works great. Probably won't zero until the rain/snow stops...

A Zero Stop would be a nice thing to have I only have one scope that has that feature.

This is the Arken Optics low-end scope. I will be glad to start my actual review of it... in the little time I've had with it, I am very pleased with it. Once I start the actual precision measurements and shooting with it I'll be able to make some more appropriate statements. So far, I've not found anything to dislike. It is a fun scope.

Scope mounted... one comment... position in rings is critical... front ring must be at least 0.42 inches forward of the turret tree(erector). Rings are tightened at 15 inlb.

There are some scopes where I have found this to be "the case". If the rings are closer to the erector than described above, tightened to 15inlb, the parallax adjustment is frozen... cannot adjust parallax. Some scopes it affects elevation or azimuth adjustment, or both. For this scope, it only impacted parallax adjustment, no impact at all on elevation or azimuth. Moving the scope in the rings such that the front ring edge was 0.45 inches from the turrets alleviated the issue. It is a common thing, some scopes have this "issue", some don't. It is a well known "thing".

The lens that is binding the parallax adjustment is not part of the erector. It is the rearmost lens of the objective system. That is what the front ring is binding. The rear ring if it asymmetric is what tends to bind up the erector adjustments. Weirdly, this is a little more common on larger tube diameters since many manufacturers do not scale up the wall thickness appropriately and while a larger diameter tube tends to be stiffer, it is more susceptible to wall deformation. The parallax adjustment IS offset from the erector stack, but is in the same "box" on the scope tube... just in front of the AZ/EL adjustments. Your clarification is appreciated... I should have been more exact.

I am setting up a new computer and its software peculiarities are foreign to me. I am not a fan of PCs, but cannot do some things I want to do on a MAC. Yes, I saw the pictures were smaller than I would like, did not have time at the moment to correct. One problem I find with PC is the overwhelming need to change things, too many fingers in the pie making the changes, and the changes are often NOT for the better. I experimented on OT... many apologies. I downloaded Snagit today, a most excellent tool that works on MAC and PC... most issues resolved. |

Still awaiting good weather for some detailed work with this scope, but I have fired 12 rounds in rain or high humidity. Scope is tracking well, just playing around. I did zero, last 5 rounds touching. Ammo is some old custom stuff, 139 grain Hornady Soft Point... MV unkown... I did not want to take a chronograph out in the rain. Once, just as I was about to pull the trigger, the wind blew my target over. I went inside shortly after.

I spent 3 hours yesterday (Christmas Eve day) evaluating the reticle and adjustment precision at exactly 100 yards. The parallax is blind adjusted to exactly 100 yards for perfect "focus". I ran the adjustments dozens upon dozens of times with NO failure to exactly match the target designations for 0.1 and 1 mil adjustments... target is the Snipers Hide 100 yard scope tracking target. Impressive performance for such a low cost scope.
I did not take any shots yesterday, but did zero on the Ruger American .308 a few days ago. I am using a Griffin SPRM 0MOA mount (I really like the mount... it has some features that make it an excellent choice for an AR). Currently have 13.5 mils "up" adjustment available. As stated before, almost no tunneling and great FOV. Once I shoot 100 or so rounds on this rifle, I'm moving the scope to some heavier caliber rifles. |

I've seen allot of good reviews on Arken's scopes.
I am looking forward to get my hands on one of the EP4 scopes. (Busy importing some to South Africa, but with the whole Covid deal everything takes even longer than usual) All the reviews I have read are fantastic, especially the tracking. 6-24 or 4-16 x 50 FFP ED Glass (Japanese) Zero Stop Precision Tracking $600 - $660. (for the EP4) I see Tiborasaurusrex gives both the SH and the EP range big thumbs up.

I've now had the SH4 on 3 .308/7.62x51, my NEMO Omen Recon "AR" in .300WinMag, .375 H&H Magnum, .458 WinMag, .458 Lott, and .50BMG. It has performed admirably on all of those rifles...excellent mechanicals, precise adjustments. Low light performance is decent, not great(still useable for any legal early or late hunting hours)... but ARKEN tells me the glass in the E-models is much better. It is now back on a .308 and I intend to keep it there for some time. It is a true "value" optic.
