I found a youtube video of a guy in Caly that did the upgrade and he had t oswap out the prop four times before he could stay off the rev limiter!!! He had it on an inflatable, videos showed him flying that thing around!!!

Mine is a DF20AH 4 stroke. During my research I determined that the 9.9, 15 and 20HP DF series are all the same block. only a throttle-body restrictor plate and different ECM will change a 9.9HP into a 20HP...
ECM is about $450. The price difference of buying a 9.9 and upgrading it to a 20 would save me another 400-500 bucks but the 9.9HP are delivered with a different prop. With so many unknowns I opted to just buy a 20HP.

Hi Lile, that's good news! Everything I've read on the Suzuki claims they seems to have out engineered Honda. Quieter, lighter, better fuel economy and a couple of hundred if not grand cheaper than Honda, Mercury and Tohatsu! the last two trips to Florida compromise almost 5 weeks of time. Everywhere I looked down there I saw more Suzuki outboards then anything else. They are taking over florida, which says Loads!
The last charter boat we where on had a 250HP suzuki. You couldn't even tell it was running at idle it was so quiet!!! I'm starting to get excited, I checked on my outboard. Purchased 9/2, shipped 9/6 out of Jakarta, Indonesia. It has all ready arrived in California and is sitting in Customs as I type. I should have it in 2-3 weeks!

Budperm, I have the 20 Hp E. start on the back of a 16 ft Alumna-craft FD model. You are going to love that motor. My boat could will run 26 MPH with the 10 pitch prop that comes on the motor. Mine will bounce off the rev. limiter with 2 people in the boat so an upgrade to the 11 pitch SS prop. is a good investment. The 20 Hp 4 stroke Suzuki barely sips fuel. For some reason I can't link reply to his post. Edited by 3_tens - September/15/2020 at 13:10 |

I'd like to know about the historical reason. I could do part of the dance in my younger years, but I've never seen the whole dance. I'm much old to try it now.

There is a historic reason for that dance. If you want to figure out what it is, try to do it. ILya

I know of a couple of brands of el cheapo vodka made in Kentucky. They have Russian sounding names to fool the uninitiated.

The other side of this coin is that it is getting steadily harder and harder to find true bargains as the internet has leveled the pricing world wide... with the exception of close-outs and clearances...I just ordered a 20HP Suzuki outboard motor from Indonesia because there is no stock in US and the price was less than half of buying state side... In stock and shipped in 3 days...

I usually try to buy american but it has become such a mixed bag.... Even the American Made stickered stuff quite often has foreign parts in it and was only assembled in American.... I've seen too many stickers that were outright lies too...

You have the right attitude Dan but unless the majority of people begin to understand that to secure a better long lasting future they will have to pay more for made in USA the big corporations will not have much of an incentive to repatriate manufacturing jobs.

I'm trying very hard, do some extended searches trying to "buy American"... it is difficult. Sometimes the choice is "buy foreign or do not buy at all". There have been some improvements in the last few years, but not nearly enough. I'm pretty much willing to pay what it takes to "buy American", just can't find most of what I want/need with the "Made In America" sticker. Some of the things that have the sticker, I just don't want or need.
Many of us are TRYING... Americans need to step up. Can't support you if you don't make the things we need, don't make the things we want.
