For almost the entirety of my shooting career, I've  been on FFP mil/mil optics.

I am considering trying the SWFA 2.5-10 for the sheer weight of the thing.  The reticle is not my favorite but I will be relying on Strelok to assist.  I'd like to build a super light coyote and possibly whitetail rifle for hunts where I am on foot for days at a time.

If I am going to give up a mil tree reticle and FFP, then I should probably be looking at glass from other manufactures as well.  I realize this is an SWFA forum, and I own A LOT of their scopes.  But...

Is there anything else even close to the glass clarity and weight of the SWFA 2.5-10?

For those of you who have the MOA BDC version of the 2.5-10, how do you like the reticle and how is the glass?

Thanks.

ETA went back and read some old threads, in 2019 it was mentioned a mil-quad version was coming "soon".

Is that still a thing?  I would immediately replace about a half dozen scopes with it.....

I'm not sure I will be  much help on this one as I have not convinced myself to buy the light weight 2.5 to 10 even though I like that magnification range. My absolute favorite of all SWFA SS scopes is the 3-9x42 and while I like the mil quad at higher powers particularly at 20x I prefer the mil dots at lower powers.   One of the great things about these scopes is that SWFA does stand behind them.  As with all things in the Covid world production and transportation of all products has become less than ideal so I can't tell you if a Mil Quad version will pop up.  I have thought for a long time that it would make a lot of sense to have a hunting scope with capped turrets and a mil dot based reticle for both range finding and hold over ideally in a FFP  or a fixed 6x.  One thing that frustrates me is the tall knobs on my Leupold Mk4 there is always some concern that low flying aircraft might bump the M1 style knobs.  I suspect you will like the 2.5 to 10 light weight SS but I really prefer something like a Trijicon Accupoint for a hunting scope and particularly so if I'm after coyotes.

I have two of the Ultralights and like them immensely.  When they finally make a mil-quad version, I'll add one.

There is generally a lack of lightweight hunting scopes out there especially anywhere near the same money.  That having been said, if you are wiling to pay more, Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 and Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 and 3-10x42 are worth considering.  Accupoint can be had with MilDot and Z3 3-10x42 with BRH.

I have two as well, both resting on top of .17 HMR rifles. Love ‘em, the ground squirrels fear ‘em.

The 2.5-10 is a great compact and lightweight scope. Mine has taken a beating on a heavy kicking spring gun and has even taken a heavy hit from a fall that dented the bell.
I think it would be a fine choice for whitetail and coyote.
