I am ready to purchase a new scope for a new hunting rifle. I am looking at the 56 mm objective scopes from meopta or conquest. The scope will be used in low light conditions for deer hunting. Most of my experience with hunting scopes is with leupold vari x III scopes. Any other suggestions will be considered too. Thanks

Buy the conquest, it is a bit lighter, and the reticle is really dark, to stand out against a low light background.

I hunt in the southeast where we can shoot 1 hour before sunup and 1 hour after sundown.
i have noticed a huge benefit by utilizing 56mm objective lenses. I sit a lot later and shoot earlier in the AM than my pals w/ smaller, inferior optics.
i know lots of folks are down on big objectives, but i have proof (meat in the freezer) that it pays to sit later.
the meostar 3-12x56 is noticably better than the conquest line. i have owned both meostar and conquests and there is no contest IMO.
the zeiss diavari, line, however is a whole different animal. but more than twice the money.
get the german #4 reticle in the meostar and enjoy the view!!! i am very pleased w/ my results.
good luck and let us know what you decide.

I haven't used any of the 56mm scopes and cannot comment on brightness. Maybe you can look at the IOR, too. Koshkin likes them and maybe he will post for you.

I couldn't agree more. Where I hunt in south Alabama the added shooting time is valuable. I, too, put a nice 6 point in the freezer this season that would have been "unshootable" with the scope that previously sat on the rifle. |

Meosta Meostar is my choice, better price and better optical properties and features IMO. I would get the FFP. |

Hey Jonbravado, I don't know where you live, but in Georgia, we call one hour after sundown "dark". Still loving my Meostar 7x56.......

Since I did a swap, I took what was on hand. I got a Z Plex reticle, adequate, but I would prefer the #4.

What is the advantage of the #4 reticle over the Z Plex? Also, did you go illuminated? I am worried that it will conflict with "nightvision".

You can get the Meopta with an illuminated reticle. If you can afford it, that's the one I'd go with. You can shoot well after dark with it if you have a moon.

RDM, even though the original post is dated, your questions are valid... I have used the #4-type reticle quite a bit. I actually prefer the Z-plex. It tends to "draw the eye" to the center of the scope. At any legitimate shooting range in very low light condtions, it provides an advantage... for me. Opinions differ. A GOOD illuminated reticle will not diminish night vision. Go with red. Some IRs are just too bright in low light conditions, you will have to experiment and figure out what works for you. Higher end optics, pretty naturally, tend to have better IRs. Red impacts your night vision less than any other color, no matter what the current "sexy trend" is...

Does anyone know when the new Meostar R1 1.5-6x42 illuminated is going to be available in the US?

Thanks for your input. I believe my decision is set. I just checked out the below site from Zeiss, which was very helpful. I believe I am going with the #4 illuminated. The Z-plex illuminated is a close second, however I feel it somewhat obstructs the top of my view. Enjoy!
