Somewhere I read that these two scope series have the same lens coatings. Construction differences could account for price differences but I was wondering about this. Does anyone have the real info?Sure wish there were some better standards within manufacturers.

Swarovski Professional Hunter and American Light Weight scopes both use the same glass and coatings.  The PH has a gold coil spring system to hold the reticle, more elevation travel and a recoiling eye piece.  Because the American series are assembled here there is no 20% duty.  These factors and cheaper American labor (you don't here that too often) account for the lower retail price.

Thanks for clarifying this subject. It makes them seem a bargain, well, a good buy at least. When the difference in price is that of a rifle....hmmm.

Don't forget the PH series is 30mm tube, A-line is 1" tube.

The AV series and PH series both use the same glass and the same lens cotings. The 30mm tube PH series uses larger 30mm size glass in the erector system. This larger glass allows for better resolution or ability to see detail. There are other 30mm tube scopes out there that use the smaller 1 inch erector systems inside. In a 30mm system the maximum power will be 4 times the lowest power. In a 1 inch system the max power is 3 times the minimum power. The AV series  have 1/4 minute clicks where the PH have clicks of .17, .18, .36, or .54 inches per click at 100 yds depending on the model. The PH series uses four coil springs to hold the erector tube in position. The AV series uses the standard single leaf spring for that task. The PH series that goes up to 12x but not over 12x has 1st focal plane reticles that get larger with the target as you turn the power up. This makes the crosshairs very easy to see in low light or European hunting conditions. PH series scope that go over 12x utilize 2nd focal plane reticles and have AO's. AV scopes have 2nd focal plane reticles also. All PH series have an eyecup with telescopic shock absorbtion. The turrets in both series are finger adjustable with distinctive clicks and the scopes are waterproof even with the turret caps removed. The best feature of either series is the glass clarity and brightness.
