I recently finished building my 1st AR-15 rifle. It is chambered in 6.5 Grendel and is designed for precision long range shooting. I chose an IOR Valdada 4-14x50mm non-illuminated MP8 reticle scope for this rifle and was very impressed with the quality.
Well on my 1st range trip this weekend, I was working on zeroing the scope. Well my over enthusiastic friend, who thought he knew what he was doing, decided to take out the set screws in my elevation turret because as he said "In my Leupolds this is how you set the turrets back to zero!". I wanted to wait until I got home to set my adjustment knobs back once I had zero'd because I remembered there were pretty specific instructions about how to do it in the paperwork that came with the scope. Sure enough, the set screws would NOT go back into the turret and the instructions explicity state NOT to remove them entirely, only to loosen them 3/4 of a turn.
I can't get ahold of ANYONE at IOR Valdada to see what I can do to repair this problem. I don't know if my warranty will cover it and frankly at this point I don't care, I just want my scope fixed. I have waited 6 months putting this rifle together and now my $900 dollar scope is worthless because I can't adjust my elevation.
Does anyone have any advice? Or should I just box the scope up with the 2 screws in a small bag and send it back to IOR with a copy of my invoice, warranty and a description of the problem?
Help! |

It sounds like your overly enthusiastic friend did not do you any favors.
I am sure IOR will fix it for you. I would try to get someone at IOR Valdada on the phone though. Also, keep in mind that the address they have on the website (PO Box something) has recently changed, since they moved a short time ago. I am not sure what the correct address is of the top of my head, but it may be in the papers that came with the scope. ILya |

Yeah I definately agree with you on the lack of favors done for me on this SNAFU :)
I got someone from IOR on the phone today and described the problem too him. He asked me if I had tried certain corrective measures and I assured him I had and that it seemed like I was out of options other than sending it in. He was VERY friendly and helpful and gave me the updated address to send it to.
I'll pack the scope up in the original box with the screws in a small bag as well and send it by courier tonight or tomorrow during the day. With luck, I may see it back good as new within a week or so. If that ends up being the case, then no harm, no foul just a lesson learned;
NO ONE unscrews, dismantles or in ANY other way man-handles my $1000 dollar scope but me or I start gettin' stabby!
Thanks for the advice, hopefully with some patience this will all work out. |

I think that IOR is going to be moving toward a different knob design over time, that is a little harder to mess up. However, nothing in this world is truly idiot-proof, so I still make sure I read the instructions.

Sounds to me like your "friend" needs a swift kick in the BALLS!!! I wouldn't let him get within 10 feet of your rifle ever again.
Congrats on selecting a fantastic scope. You're going to love that IOR. |

I spoke with a rep at IOR yesterday. We went over the details of the problem and we agreed I should just send it in to be taken care of by professionals. He was really friendly and helpful and I have complete confidence the issue will be resolved with no problems. I am shipping the scope today so hopefully within a week or so I will get it back good as new!
