My oldest son- just turned 14- has taken to blackpowder hunting and seems to really like it . He asked for a Xmas gift of a new bp rifle. Now, you could say that I am a

" Thompson Center " guy . I started out with a T/C  Black Diamond XR that shoots pretty well , and is topped with a 3200 Elite 3x9x40. The downside is the lengthy clean time. I currently am using an Encore 50 cal  topped with a 2.5x8x36 VX III  that I installed Pro Hunter stocks, a  Bellm oversize hing pin, and a  new hammer spring. It likes what it likes ( 130gr 777 and 250 T/C bonded sabots) . My Dad uses an Omega topped with a 3x9 4200 Elite that admittedly was the easiest rifle ( centerfire or bp) that I ever worked a load up for . It shot everything well enough to go hunting with.

However, I don't want to just limit myself to just T/C if there is something out there worth trying. My son likes the look of Remington's new Genesis that he spied in their catalog, Anyone have any experience with those? . I hunt with a few fellers that like their Knights, but heard from a couple of guys at the range that havem' and don't likem',but they had some older stuff.  Plus there are CVA's ,  the defunct Austin and Hallecks, Traditions, the new T/C Triumph, etc. Inlines are the weapon of choice and optics ( gonna top  it with a 1.5x6 4200 Elite or a Sightron  S II 1.5 x6 that I have here )  are okay.

Here he is at the ripe age of 10 with his first deer. My Father-in-Law went with him on Maryland's youth day ( I had to work ). . Not bad for his first deer- 145lbs dressed ,mainframe 8  point w/ 2 kickers,  and 127 inches. Weapon- 30/30 H&R topped with a 2x7x3200 Elite . Single shot through the heart which made up for his earlier miss at a doe about 130 yds out. ( he had the 'fever' real bad )

So --have at it... T/C fans or otherwise ,,any  BP weapons out there that stand out..thanks..

Yeah- I saw one at a gun show yesterday. Seems pretty cool and gets good write ups. Funny you mention the T/hole stock-- He really likes those.

I like that laminated stocks don't get ice cold like composites , and are just about weatherproof..

i think that guys price is a little high, its more than c-a-b-e-l-a-s wants for a bare rifle but maybe that guy was selling one with a scope on it.

The last deer my son shot on Thursday with this load was a doe that dressed out at 137 lb.s An 85 yd broadside double lung  shot that passed completely through . The deer dropped without a single step. Last year I took 2 average size does and a nice 8 point ( about 170 live weight). The farthest any of them ran was about 25 yd.s , That was the buck. It was a quartering away shot, and I believe I hit it a little too far back. It was a total pass thru also, but only about 60 yds away when I shot it. I used to load  the non bonded 250 gr T/C ( made by Hornady) and the 240 gr XTP load for my Dad , but now exclusively use the 250 gr bonded round with  the speed sabot . However, for bear or game of that size, I would step up to the 300 gr loading. So far--no complaints...
