I want to mount a scope on my Savage 340 .30-30 but it is missing the 4 screw holes needed to install the scope mount. Does anyone know what size of tap I could use to drill and tap my own screw holes so I can install the scope mount?
This page shows what the typical Savage 340 looks like and even has a picture of the 4 holes used to install a scope mount, but I must have an earlier model.
I'm looking to purchase this mount for my 340.
Thanks,
John

If you are not a machinist I would take the gun to a gunsmith and let him tap the holes. You want these holes to be aligned precisely and drilled straight, hard to do without proper knowledge or equipment. If you are confident you are capable of doing the work, call whoever that is that makes those mounts and find out what tap you need to acquire. Good luck welcome to the OT!
You may have more luck with this post if you put it under the "Rings & Bases" forum. Edited by TheDrakeTaker - December/06/2007 at 13:33 |
