Got this in an email. Figured I'd pass it along. Guess he was seen at Fish Lake between Klamath Falls and Medford Oregon. |

Very nice bull!
Dale, do you own some property next to YNP? If so, do you need any help in keeping the elk population in correct balance?

wish I did, most of it is taken up by movie stars (harrison ford, etc) but there are several places the elk cross that are still public-- the last pictures look identical to a place called south park, and if the helo hadn't given the location would have guessed that.

anyone who has tried to lift a wet skinned (shot in the snow) out elk hide, (usually take 2-3 men) can appreciated how much water that elk is lifting just getting up. on slick rock no less, gives some idea of just how strong they are.

Yeah, no kidding. He sure is sleek and in prime condition. Early or pre-rut, I'd guess... Great photography. He would be of the Roosevelt subspecies, by the location, not? Edited by RONK - January/16/2008 at 14:27 |

From the size and antlers, i would say he is a roosevelt. They tend to be a little bigger. Also they don't grow antlers as wide as rocky mountain elk. The only weird thing is the color looks more like a rocky mountain, but they both can vary enough in color that it can be hard to telll the difference on that alone. I have seen the elk swim the missouri river up in montana, and it is amazing how good they are at it. Always a beautiful sight. Glad I could share the pics.
