Are there any quality scopes for an AR-15 with the carry handle mount? Most of the scopes I see with the carry handle mount are cheap and crappy. Do I just need to get a flat top upper?
Thanks.

I say Trijicon if it is your price range. The acogs are excellent scopes if you are wanting a variable power scope then you need to get a flattop upper.

I would get a flat top upper. You will never be able to get a good cheek weld with an optic on top of the carry handle, your head will just be floating and you will not be consistent with you shots. You can get a cheek piece for it, but then it does not allow you to mount the rifle properly to your shoulder.
They are not that hard to change out, you just need a few tools and a field gauge to double check the head spacing. |

AMEN!
A2 uppers are great if you are planning on using iron sights exclusively, but they suck for optics, even with the best mount set ups, IMHO. Edited by cheaptrick - January/29/2008 at 16:23 |

I'd get a flattop and be done with it. You'll be going from one of the worst scope mounting scenarios possible to what I personally feel is the most solid and versatile one available.
If you ever need to use irons, get one of the BUIS' s or a clamp-on carry handle.
