I think the Ruger varmints and the Savage varmints are pretty close price-wise. The AccuTrigger is pretty nice. I have one on my smokeless ML. Sweet! All you need to sweeten up a ruger is to cut a few links out of the spring. I had to do the same thing with my Accutrigger, since the ML ones only go down to 3.5 pounds and I like my triggers light. MY custom ML had an 12 ounce trigger. Heh, heh.
As for the advertising other sites being rude, I'd agree with you there cory. Edited by Riflman |

matte black looks good on almost anything. as far as rugers go i have 12 of them ranging from .223 to .338 and every one shoots very well. i would put my ruger .220 swift with a 6.5-20x vari-x 3 up against anything the redneck has and most likely make him eat his words. by the way where in SD do you hunt the coyotes. i live in SD and just purchased a colt match target hbar for coyotes and prarie dogs. i have a post in the tacticle scope section title AR-15 scope that i would appreciate you all to reply to. dont get rid of your ruger i am sure it will do you well. sry for the late post. i haven't been on in a while. i hunt pheasants about 40 miles west of Big Bend dam. Do a lot of fishing there. i worked out there all summer at a place called Roduner's Rooster Resort doing typical farm work. i plan on going back out there during both pheasant season, and over the summer to do the typical "south dakota hill billy shooting" anything and everything goes. i love south dakota. no stupid people who disagree with rifles. no, i love my ruger. its the best 223 i have shot. ( accu trigger is extremly close. if it wern't for the price i got i would have got the savvage) i figure i can play with my trigger. maybe if get an accu trigger if i can ( i dunno on price or if it will even work). u ever heard of where i was? I dunno i really like the nikon buckmaster. the money i save from buying it i can get a nice surplus of ammo. what color i am leaning towards the silver. i dunno how'd it look on a "target grey" gun. i think it might be nice. on the other hand i don't want to buy a scope that looks like crap either. i wish i could mount it? thanks. encouraged to give more opinions on scope, gun, and color

Here is my 6BR ultralight with a silver leupold 2.5-8 and stoney point knobs. I like the silver scopes with matte rings and bases, especially with a stainless barrel. Not much point now though, since this rifle is painted snow camo scope and all!

i like matte scopes, and matte rings/bases, silver puts off too much of a reflection for me, and you should get the matte if you want to get close to yotes without the chance of them seeing you.

yeah, good point i don't if it would make that big of difference. what was ur point that the rings wouldn't hold a 44 or 50 mm scope. i don't think that it would make that big if difference if its still a one inch tube. not sure, ur the smart one. thanks for all the help. i dunno about the silver issue cause its gonna be a matte one. with a white blanket of snow. i wouldn't think it would make that big of difference. i dunno though.

That's the only silver scope I have. The rest are matte, and also look good on grey rifles, stainless rifles, etc. Can't go wrong with Matte. better resale on your scope too if you want to sell it.

M77 VT,
as a general rule for a 1" tube scope with a 50mm objective lens you need higher rings than for a 30mm tube scope with the same objective. If you think about it you'll see that the bottom of an objective bell of a 30mm scope will be 2.57mm higher off the barrel than that of a 1" scope (assuming the same objective bell size).
Most ring manufacturers publish the height of their rings which is the distance from the top of the base to the bottom of the scope tube.
Most scope manufacturers also publish the outer diameter of the front bell. TO calculate the difference in height of the bottom of the scope tube from the bottom of the objective bell do the following: Subtract tube diameter from the front bell outside diameter and divide the result by two.
For example, Sightron S2 4.5-14x50 scope has a 1" tube (25.4mm) and outside front bell diameter of 57mm. That means that from the bottom of the main tube to the bottom of the front bell it measures: (57mm-25.4mm)/2=15.8mm (or 0.62") That means that if you want to use Ruger rings for this setup you'll have to go to High rings. Ruger provides data on the distance between scope axis and bore axis. Using that and knowing outside diameter of you barrel where the scope is going to be over it you can easily calculate the height of the rings you need.

yeah, i see ur point. not worth it i guess. i'm gonna be pushing my budget with the scope anyway. i figured i'm gonna need a mass surplus of ammo lol. well. i think i'm ne more ideas on the silver theory. thanks for explaining it koshkin. so in english ur saying that the objective lens would interfer with the functioning of the gun thx. . well thanks for everything. still contemplating the silver idea. u don't see any silver on the rugers.

well thanks for the help. i think i'm gonna get the nikon buckmaster do to the recent budget restriction. thanks for all the help. hey just a question what do u think about a bipod. i'm talking about coyotee hunting. is it worth it. i figure that it might be akward to set up with but the ruger is perty heavy. it might be a little shaky. what'd u think? what else would u think of?

for coyote hunting, with that heavy of a gun, your going to want some kind of a support, most yote hunters use shooting stix, but i like someht9ing attatched to the gun, i use a harris model 25C on my coyote gun, which adjusts from 13-25"(?), and swivels, and i beleave i paid $120 for it, but it can easily be found for less than 100, i just needed one then, and there, so i went to my local sporting goods store, and picked one up. which buckmaster?? the 4.5-14 isnt a bad scope for the money, and it will last you for quite some time, might i suggest the mildot reticle model though.

thats an idea on the mildot. the problem is that none of my shopes carry them in mildot. it takes them forever to order them ( 2-3 weeks) don't ask me why. i could order it from here though. i dunno it'd kinda be a slap in the face cause i know everyone at my local shop. i still don't know on the bipod deal. my dad won't hear of it. lol. is it really a good idea? evryone i talk to say that they'd never own one cause they get in the way of somthing if a yote gets in too close. i dunno though cause i also plan on having a winchester super x2 with 3 inch twos in heavy shot for if their within 35 yards. i'll have the rifle dad would take the x2, thx cory and everyone. for all the hlep in all my posts
