    Posted: December/14/2004 at 04:14

I'd like to mount an IOR M2 on a M16A2 on a carry handle mount.  I'm overseas right now and would like to have it waiting at home for me when I come home on my two weeks leave in January.  I'd rather not discover my rings are too low with no time to reorder or on the other hand have rings too high.  My question is what ring height do I need to ensure the large center section on the scope clears the mount?  What brand of mount gives the best service?  I have Leupold Mark IV and PRW 30mm rings at home mounted on other rifles that I could rob but I'd like to get an aluminum ring rather than steel.  I don't see the need for a heavy steeel ring on this setup and for weight reasons would like to avoid them.  I'm not fond of vertical split rings either since they don't lend themselves to being detached from the base while still holding the scope in the same position.  A Mark IV/Badger type ring made of aluminum would be ideal.  Any help would be great.

do you have a base for the rifle, the leupold carry hadnle mount is real nice, MK4 rings are real nice, and for the money, you cnat beat the PRW rings. low rings should mount it fine, but you could step up to mediums if you down mind it.

Cory and Chris,

Thanks for the advise.  I ordered the scope from SWFA but it seems it's backordered.  Hopefully I'll get it by January.  I didn't see the Farrell rings in your mounts section.  I ended up ordering a set of TPS rings since I have read good things about them here and they have a deal so good for deployed soldiers it's hard to resist.  Like getting Mark IV rings at Tasco price.  I looked up the center height on the rings you guys recomended and found the TPS aluminum ring that was about the same.  I'm interested to see how the IOR stacks up.  I played with a IOR M1 a couple years ago that a buddy had and I liked it.  I didn't like the lack of an ocular focus however but the M2 should solve that problem.  I'd like to set it up side by side next to my 3.5-10 side focus Leupold set on 4 and my Burris compact 4x.  I'll have to check the elevation tracking while I am home also.  If I get time I'll post a review if anyone is interested.
