Hi everybody. I'm new hunter and I don't know much about scopes. Therefore any help is very appreciated. I have Remington 870 express shotgun combo with two barrels( one barrel is rifled - slug). I want to put scope
on it for deer season. Over here in Ontario, Canada, we can hunt deer
with rifle only up north, and in south Ontario we have to use shotgun. I would like to use scope
for deer and turkey season, and I guess it can't be used for rabbits so
I would take it off in rabbit season. (can this be done). I was looking at Busnell Ellite 3200 1.5-4.5 32 mm? Which scope and what magnification do you recommend for this shotgun. Thank you !!!

Your choice of the Elite is fine. I have used a 3200 2-7 on a 12 GA and 30/30 with no worries . The Rainguard is a worthwhile feature also. When mounting it on your shotgun, I would use quality steel mounts and not aluminum given the recoil of a 12ga. I assume this scope was chosen for it being is your price range... Best of luck and welcome to the OT

Thank you for reply!!! Could you tell me if it is possible to hunt rabbit with scope if for example you have FOV of 75 ft at 100 yards. I know that people hunt turkey with scope but I don't know about rabbit. Is there any other brands or magnifications that you would recommend in this price range. Thank you !!! |

The rabbit thing--Sure -why not , just a matter of personal preference.
In the same price range as the 3200 ?? The Weaver V Series are a good buy ... Edited by martin3175 - August/01/2008 at 19:40 |

Most bunny hunting I have done in southern Ontario is up close and personal. Usually kick them loose from brush piles under your feet. A scope would be a hindrance in my opinion in this type of hunting scenario. You have to get on target Right Now and shoot quickly.

Ditto on the Weaver V3. It is a bright scope, fairly priced(can be had for $140), and will take the recoil of 12 ga slugs.

New hunter, your right on track with either the 3200 or the weaver v3, both are about perfect, in my opinion for deer hunting. I would also skip a the scope for bunnies.

Yeah, I ain't so sure why a man would need to go 'Carlos Hathcock' for rabbits...the ones I've hunted have been haulin' bunny a**, trying to say ahead of beagles. Remember: you point a shotgun, and aim a rifle...unless your slug hunting with the shotgun.
