I am a HP service rifle competitor. For service rifle shooting on walk and paste ranges, the conditions vary to the point that almost any scope will do, to nothing under the sun will work.
The construction of the range is important.
If your range is flat like mine, not even the best scope made will allow a clear image if used close to the ground on a 90 degree day. There is just too much boiling air in the line of sight compounded by the distance. The Kowa TSN-661 with 25X LER eye peice is a standard amoung HP competitors, as with the more expensive Kowas like the TSN-821.
It is because resolution is needed, and Kowas have it. I think others do too, and can be had for less. That is why I am here.
I am looking for the resolution of a Kowa TSN-661 that lets me save as much as possible. Weight is not an issue, but eye relief is. It must be sturdy, waterproof, 45* angle, and with the resolution to clearly focus at 300 yrds in good conditions to see .223, and 30cal holes.
At an XTC match with pulled targets, any well made scope will perform well. It is the walk and past club matches that really test your optics.
