Here's my question, I have $1000 budget for two scopes. One for a .280 and the other for a 35 whelen. I'd like to dedicate about $650-700 for the .280 and the other $300-350 for the .35Wh. The .280 is the nicer of the two rifles by far and will be used as an all-around rifle, I'm thinking on the lines of a 3-9/2.5-10x40 for the .280 and something like 1-4/2-8 for the whelen. There are many different ways I could go with this and I do have my favorites, but I'm looking to all for suggestions. Thanks.

I haven't spent any time with a Burris other than the FFII ..I believe Cyborg is a Burris fan though
I do have 2 discontinued 4200 Elite 1.5-6's and other than being a little long, they are excellent .

I'm really not a burris guy but this 1.5-6x40 is really the power range i'm looking for on the Whelen.

they make a tough scope with pretty nice glass once you go beyond ffII's, and there cs isnt bad to deal with at all so i would dismiss them with taking a look first.

Over the conquest, What I'd really like is a swaro 3-10x42, but I can't find one on the sample list, and I can't justify the $1k for a new one.

is the conquest worth the extra$$$ over a 4200 elite? same kind of question but you have to be the one with the answer, to me the 4200 vs conquest for the money is a no brainer take the 4200 all day, kx vs conquest same kind of story, but i think i would spend the extra money for the kx in this case, but the wild card is the whole legacy sports take over of kahles, not sure whats going to shake down there so i would maybe hold off on the kahles until there is more information available on kahles status via legacy sports.

For the 280? Go with your best judgement and instincts based on your use, terrain and ranges!
PS!.......A belled objective is fine on a 280!.........

To put and end to this topic, Chris F. found me swaro 3-10x42av for the .280 and I also purchased a weaver 1-3. (just for Squeezer). I am quite excited to get my new toys. |
