I have to use a rimfire rifle to hunt predators here on public land during the small game season, so I am looking at scopes for my .22WMR. I trying to save a little money this time around and not go with an AO like the Weaver RV9 or the Leupold EFR.
So my question is this: If I am going to hunt coyotes at 60 - 100+ yards, would I be better off with a good rimfire scope like the Sightron 3-9x32RF that has parallax set at 50 yards, or should I go with a centerfire scope with parallax set to 100 yards instead? Or will parallax error matter at all in my application? Thanks. |

Check out the Swift Premier line 4-12x40 with AO. Pretty good scope for the $.

To answer your parallax question, it will not affect your shooting at those ranges. I have AO and big game scopes on some of my rimfires. For the size game and ranges you are talking about you will not have a problem. I very rarely mess with the AO on an EFR Leo on a .22 WMR and don't adjust it unless I'm shooting at the range on 25 yd targets. For doggies it is set at 100 yds.

So even if I use a rimfire scope whose parallax is set to 50 yds, for doggies that I might be shooting at a range of 100 yards, I should be OK? Not enough error to worry about in this application?
Thanks for your response!

No worries whether it is a rimfire set for 50 or a big game set for 150. They will both do the job at 100 yards. I use both and they work fine for your purpose.
Good luck with your choice. |
