I need a new scope for my RWS M48-22 springer.  The previous RWS branded 3-9x finally failed from the recoil.  A similar 3-9 replacement from RWS currently costs about $60, but I want something more substantial.

There are a variety of quality scopes built to take heavy recoil spring airrifles, but most are vague about the low end of the adjustable focus range.  Some claim 10 yards, ideally the low end would be more like 10 feet for my liking.  I have a favorite spot outside my basement window where gray squirrels pass by that is about 15 feet from the scope to the target.  At that range, optimum power setting is about 6X, but my rifle is capable of delivering adequate power and supreme accuracy beyond 35 yds.

The question is, which scopes have quality optics, are built to take heavy springer recoil and can focus down to 10 yds or preferably less?  The ideal specs would be 6-24X50mm, but less power and smaller objective lens would still fit the bill so long as the focus can be brought down to 10 yards or less.

Any suggestions?  thanks - CW

on the same rws mod 48 in .22 I have opted for a 4-16 x 50 Leapers...  I was very surprised at the optic quality and still really dig this piece of glass.

I use my RWS as an at home trainer so I have the mil-dot reticle and tacticle target turrets, so on days I do not make it to the range I can still get in some trigger time without upsetting the neighbors.

Check out the message board and reviews at pyramid air, the folks there have been a wealth of knowledge for my air gun choices.
