I am looking for a recommendation for a reasonably priced (read cheap) but sturdy red dot scope for my 12 ga. shotgun. I live in CT where you rarely get a shot greater that 50 yds. so I thought that a 1x red dot would be practical. Thanks

"Cheap but sturdy" may be a tall order. BSA red dots, for example, were essentially worthless on my 44mags whereas an Aimpoint works fine. The cheap ones may work on 22s, but your 12 ga would probably destroy the inards of them, if my experience with the BSA ones is at all typical. I have found that an old Tasco PDP2 red dot has held up to the recoil of my 10 ga shotgun, which, admittedly I only use infrequently for deer hunting with buckshot. It also worked fine on a 357 mag revolver and for hundreds of rounds.
