I would like to have one scope that I could use on two different handguns. A TC 30-30 for white tail and a Ruger MKII .22 for squirrel and rabbits. I want a scope that I can trust to be settable and repeatable. I would like to be able to zero each handgun and know how many clicks it takes to change the scope to zero for the other handgun. I am told the Bushnell 3200 will do this, but I can't get it in a 3x9. I am told the Leupold VXIII will do this, but I don't want to pay the price. Is the Burris 3x12 capable of doing what I want to do? Any other ideas or suggestions?

The Burris is easily capable of doing that, but keep in mind that the more magnification the more difficult it is to use a handgun scope. The exit pupil is so small that it makes the eye relief very critical plus you field of view is pretty narrow on 12x.  I would highly recommend you play with one first hand before buying one.  Consider something in the 2-6 range like the Elite you mentioned and I think you will be pleased.  The Elite also has a little handle on top of the windage and elevation adjustments making it quite a bit easier to re-sight it in when moving it from gun to gun.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. I know I'll never use the 12x to hunt with, the field of view at 100yds is small enough you could lose game quickly. What I really want is a 3x9 but I guess I should compromise on the 3200. I was looking at Bushnell's warranty and found that for one year you can get your money back if you don't like the scope. If they've got that much confidence in their scope, I guess it's safe to try one.

I just recently got into shooting with scoped pistols. I had never owned or shot a scoped pistol, when I ran into a XP-100, .221 Fireball in mint condition that just followed me home. I first tried a Redfield ESD with variable dots, it worked great up close but only out to about 35 yards,  with no magnification and old eyes I couldn't see well enough beyond 35 yards to truely evaluate my reloads or the pistol's ability to group. Being I already knew the quality of Leupold as I own several of their rifle scopes I purchased a 2.5-8x32 EER with silver finish and I was pleased to find that the pistol was capabable of shooting a best to date 5-shot group of .733 from a bench rest at 100 yards. The load used was NBT 40gr - H-4227 15.0gr - CCI 400 - RP cases trimmed to 1.390 - OAL of 1.980 you can bet this pistol will never look for a new home again. I then whent out and bought a new T/C G2 with a .223 Super 14" SS barrel and put on a new Burris 3-12X32 LER with FPX, Black, PA and TGT knobs. And yes this scope in more difficult to see through, even turned down to 8x it doesn't match up to the Leupold. But I wanted the target knobs as I move this scope to another T/C barrels in 7mm TCU. As both Barrels have Warne Maxima bases designed for Weaver style rings, I installed low Leupold QRW rings and zeroed the bases for the .223 at 100yds and I then placed the scope on the 7mm TCU barrel and noted the number if clicks to took on both knobs to sight in that caliber. Now I can switch barrels and the scope and be dead zero with either buy just retuning the target knobs to the correct setting. As I've done this for several years with a trio of short action Remington 700 VSSF rifles, all three rifles are different calibers and share two scopes and I've never had one of then not return to within a quarter of a inch to point of impact. I've got the knob settings listed for both scopes and for all three guns and I keep a copy in all three gun cases. The guns all have Leupold QRW bases and both scopes have Leupold QRW rings. It's common sense everything being the same it had to work.
