What would you recomend in a compact binocular in the 10x26 to 10x28 range. Am considering the Pentax DCF MP 10x28, the Steiner Predator 10x26 and Bushnell Trophy 10x26.

I want something small enough to put in my pocket, yet sharp enough to count points.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Compact binoculars are going to seriously hider any low light hunting situation. They simply lack the ability to gather light due to their small exit pupil. I owned a pair of Zeiss 8x20's year's ago and sold them after one hunting season. If you have pockets that will accomodate, say, a 8x32 roof prism binocular you will be far better off. You will find a wide selection of manufacturer's to choose from along with a wide price range as well. Good luck.

If you have to go with a compact the Steiner is the best for what you want to do.

Steiner 10x26 Predator.......$164.99

10x26 Predator
The 10x26 Predator provides uncommon power for a binocular of its size. Users can spot a lark perched on a tree limb from 100 yards and see it as if it were only 10 yards away. With an exit pupil of 2.6, the new binocular also offers excellent light gathering ability for a unit of its size and power.

The 10x26 Predator is ideal for any outdoor endeavor, regardless of the season or weather. With its water-resistant seal, users won’t have to worry about rain, cold or whitewater spray. The Predator is also fogproof to define hazy objects on humid, overcast early mornings. The 10x26 ultra-light model comes as a more powerful version of Steiner’s previously introduced 8x22 Predator model.

Specifications
10x26 – Item no. 226
Weight: 9.7 oz.
Field of view: 291 ft./1000 yds.

Predator Optics
Predator Predator-Coating

Wildlife hidden by dense foliage: whatever you need to spot - nothing escapes the Predator´s eyes! The revolutionary Steiner Predator lens coating increases contrast in wooded and camouflaged backgrounds and makes animals much easier to detect with the human eye. Simply put, the green coating blocks out green and blue (the colors of foliage and haze) and boosts browns and reds. The added contrast is impressive.
