Hey 300

Lot's of conflicting information!  Argue

Who's to know except the shooter and his gunsmith.  I was surprised to see that Norma is actually marketing a case that is labeled 300 Wtby with different dimensions.

But, until convinced otherwise, I will hold judgment.  Also do believe that almost any long range caliber could have done the same thing with all the dollars spent, time, practice and preparation.
Guns only have 2 enemies, rust and politicians

I'm sure any long range caliber can do the same with the right preparation, and a highly accurized bench rifle. I do get tired of reading that Weatherby calibers, and guns are never accurate, and seeing the person who asked about them told to avoid them, as they will never be a shooter. Not saying I see that here, but it's out there. Just one of my pet peeves. Kind of like a 30-06 being an all around cartrige for anything in the U.S., and the .270 being too light for elk. I'd take a .270 elk hunting before I would an '06 myself.Big Smile

  +1,Bob.

But just for some insight into the NORMA casing issue I did talk to a guy this morning whose been using NORMA .300 Weatherby casings for quite a while.  He says the shoulders are not a well defined radius and that in his production hunting rifle the casings headspace on the belt for the first firing.  He seems to think that it's possible the rifle used in the match  had the bbl set from the get go to headspace on the NORMA shoulder.

We'll probably never know. As you say only the shooter and gunsmith know for sure.

All in all, not bad for the cartridge that has a belt and has a long magnum length action.
