Anyone here have experience with a Leupold VX-3 handgun scope. I am thinking along the line of the 2.5x 8. Seems to have ok FOV, would like to see a little more i guess. Anyone here use one so I can get an idea if they are worth 500 dollars as in you would buy again.

I use a fixed Leupold 2x scope on my 454 SHR, anything over 4-5 power is only useful off a bench rest.

Do you hunt much with that scope, do you like it? That is the scope I first thought of. I like the field of view it offers and see 2x as ideal for hunting, but this my first handgun and never looked thru a handgun scope. My thought for the variable is maybe it would help for load development, but I dont want to be handicapped to much for hunting.

I think a low power variable, say 1-4 power range would be great. Shots with a pistol in these calibers over 100-150 yards while hunting would require pretty decent marksmanship.

I have pistol scopes in 1-4, 2-7 and the fixed 2X Leupold already mentioned.
The Leo is great and has been fine for all of the deer hunting I have done with my Ruger RH. The variable Leo does have the advantage of the larger objective that would be a bit brighter when cranked up to 4x in low light. It, like most Leupolds, should not be a problem with the light recoil of the .480 Good luck with that thumper. |

I bought a Burris 1.5-4X26 for my .44 Mag and it's OK but I'm going to change it to a 2-7 Burris or 2.5-8 Leupold. The 1.5-4 is actually bigger than the others. The variables at low power are great for hunting, especially in low light. As I've written here before, I found the Burris 2X20 unusable late in the evening. The 2-7X32 solved the problem. It also helps a lot to have 4-5X for sighting in. 6-7X is pretty worthless.
