I had originally posted this to another thread, but thought I might get more direct responses by starting a new specific one:
I am trying to decide between the Fullfield II (with free spotter) 3x9 and the Leupold VX-1 3x9. Is the Leupold worth the extra $20 over the Burris? Even after including the free spotter? I plan to mount the scope on a Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow in .270WSM. I assume both scopes can handle the recoil. From what I have read on these forums and others, the Leupold probably offers better service if I should have any problems with it, while the Burris is a tremendous bargain, given the current special offer of a free spotting scope. I also like the Ballistic plex reticle, but am not sure about the entire eyepiece rotating to change power on the the scope. Since my rifle is a matte finish with black matte synthetic stock, I plan on a matte finish scope to go in my Leupold STD rings and bases. Bottom line question, is the Leupold VX-1 as bright, clear and reliable as the Burris Fullfield II in 3x9? Is there a better option in the same price range? Appreciate any additional responses. In my opinion both scopes are good reliable tools. Both are American made! As you mentioned the Burris is the better value. You will receive years of service from the Burris and the spotter deal is unparalleled. Burris has a reputation for strength and dependability. Between the VX-I and Burris Fullfield II, I'll take the Burris.

Burris for me too.
The whole eye piece turning is a benefit....makes it quick and easy to turn even with gloves. |

I used to work at a firearms distributor and own both. I would take the Burris. Leopold is great ,but they are very close in quality and that spotter is a big extra. My last fathers day gift (to my dad) was a Burris.. He is a die hard Leopold guy and former benchrest shooter and optical engineer..he loves it. He gets all technical but basically Burris is good sh*t.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will go for the Burris. The spotting scope deal just makes it too hard to pass up. Maybe a Leupold next time. Appreciate the input.
