Hello all,

I did some searching and found mostly older threads, and I know quality/technology changes, so I'm asking this question:

I've just joined a gun club that has 100 and 200 yard ranges, plus a 600 yard range. I understand (from my research, not experience yet), that at 600 yards I'm not going to see bullet holes, but I should be able to get an idea of where my impact is.

I'm going to be shooting prone a lot, plus benchrest with a nice rest, and I will eventually be taking some "precision rifle" classes.

What in the sub-$500 catagory rises to the top, and will allow me to see .223 holes on paper at 100-200, and dirt impacts at 600?

I'm not partial to any name brand, I'll take whatever works the best at my budget.

I appreciate your help!

For that money I'd look at a Bushnell FLP ED 20-60x80.  They are great glass for the money.  That's the only one in the sub $500 I've looked through that I was impressed with.

Also keep an eye on the samplelist, they have some nice one pop up on there from time to time.  Could save a good amount from a new one and have better glass.

I've been looking at the Sample List, but I wasn't sure what I should jump on. I'm going to try and hit some local stores this weekend and actually get my eye up to a few spotting scopes.

I realized I forgot to mention, poor eye relief pisses me off. Being a photographer, a Nikon Spotting Scope interested me, but I hear they have poor eye relief.

I see Bushnell is recommended regularly, and my scope on my AR is a Bushnell (which I get grief from the tacticool guys about). As I said, I have no concern for brand, only about quality.

Not a thing wrong with Bushnell. I have a 3200 10x40 on my AR
