I just ordered a Raging Bull 44 Mag and am thinking about investing in a scope. I was looking at the Burris Model 200229, anybody have any experience with it? I never shot a hanfgun with a scope, so wasn't sure what to get,  2X, 4X, or vaiable 2-6X. I will be mostly either target practicing up to 100 yards or deer hunting in the woods - so closer shooting. Is the 2X the way to go? Has anyone ever used the mentioned scope?

I have a 1x model Burris that is no longer made on a 45-70 Pistol and it has really held up well.  I think the 2x model would be a really good choice.  I also had their 3-12 variable wiht balistic plex and did not like it the eye relief was too short.  Vortex also makes a pistol scope in 2x that is less if price is an issue.

2x is the best choice for all around use on handguns, as the biggest advantage is putting the target and reticle in the same image plane  and not necessaryily the magnification. I've used the burris extensively on various hard kickers, such as the 454 and they are good scopes. Currently the one I have is used as a scout scope on a 708 Scout Savage.

I have a 2x7X32 on my 357 Dessert Eagle and as mentioned already it is a very solid durable scope. You have to determine what fits your intended application. If your looking quick target aquasition in a scope the 2X is ideal as Dale said. I chose the varible because I too hunt with it and prefer the magnafication even though it does change eye relief.
Inside of 50yds. anything over 2x isn't so neccessary. Your choice for Burris is one you won't regret. I've taken deer from 8yds. out to 74yds. and the scope I have is ideal for me.

keep us posted on your decision. Good luck!

thanks for posts. Urimaginaryfrnd mentioned a vortex scope, I went to the website for Vortex and they have a lifetime, no questions asked warranty. Anyone have any experience with them?

I passed on the Vortex and just ordered the Burris  2x20 after hearing a comment about the eye relief at 20 inches on the Vortex being less user friendly with only a short distance front to back where it becomes in focus.  The Burris is a proven tought scope and compared to the cost of the variables out there it is a very reasonable price.
