The VX-II for 2004 now has Multicoat 4 on every lens through out the scope, a lockable fast focus eye piece and a more tactile power indicator (it has a little raised bump on it now).  When they replaced the Vari X-II last year with the VX-II they added click adjustments and Multicoat 4 to the outside lenses.  The 2004 VX-II is more like the old Vari X-III and was different enough to warrant a stock number change.
