When searching for high quality optics at a very reasonable price one scope is often overlooked. That scope is the Weaver Grand Slam. Offering many features that all scope enthusiast look for. Including fully multi-coated lenses, while also being waterproof, shockproof, and fog proof just to name a few. The Grand Slam covers all ranges of powers from 1.5-5X32 on up to 6-20X40. With all models having the Micro-Trac 4 point system. Which allows you to adjust windage or elevation without affecting the other as you change one. Unlike other scope systems that have 2 screws and 1 spring to adjust their erector tubes. This design when adjusting either windage or elevation will inadvertently affect the adjustment of the other variable. On a budget and want a scope that will perform. Look no further and go with the Grand Slam. It would be my choice.

Pros: pretty good glass, reasonably priced, fairly rugged, overall good value.
Cons: Power adjustment ring is overly large, better quality scopes can be had for essentially the same money.

In your opinion which scopes would you say were better quality for the same money. |

In my opinion, I think that numerous offerings from Burris and Leupold are better scopes (some even cost less). I think the Bushnell Elite series and Nikon Monarchs are better. And finally from europe I think Zeiss Conquest, Docter and Myopta are better (I confess my Docter evaluation is from a close friend's evaluation, but he knows optics). From what I have seen the Weavers seem to run from between $300-$375. I am using 3-9x40 as my base line here and the scopes that I feel are superior range in prices from a low of $175.00 to a high of $400.00. My personal picks are the Zeiss Conquest ($400.00, I actually got mine on closeout for $365.00) and I always carry a just in case spare scope on all of my hunting trips (Burris Fullfield II, $175.00). As I stated earlier, this is just my opinion and you need to look for yourself, but I think if you research things you will agree with me.

Yes ranburr the scopes you mentioned are very good scopes as well. As for the large power ring I think it allows for your hand to find it pretty fast and kinda like it myself. If your ever in a situation where you need to zoom in a hurry it can be a benefit. The Grand Slam although seems to be forgotten when someone is looking for a scope that will last a lifetime, and has a warranty to back that up. Ranging from $250-$335 here at SWFA it's hard to pass up.

I am also interested in hearing the reasons for your opinion. Give us specific examples or models that are better than....say a....Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40 at $249.95 Which Elite is priced around $250. and is better than the Grand Slam and what makes it better? Which Monarch is $250. and what makes it better than the Weaver? The Zeiss is almost twice the price and that opens up a whole new thread and discussion. |

Obviously my fault for not double checking your prices first. I was basing my comments on the price of $325.00 for the Weaver G.S. 3-10x40 at Cabela's. I certainly now know where to buy Weavers from! The arguement defineately leans more in the Weaver favor for that price. My mistake, sorry. If I had to pay $325.00 for the Weaver, I would defineately throw in another $75.00 for the Zeiss. At any rate, that is just my opinion and at least this thread ought to show people how much better of a deal that you guys pass on to your customers. Thanks for the excellent and fun forum.
