Welcome to the OT Chrs!
I always use sun shades as I think the skylight & polaroid filters can affect the FOV & add a little distortion. What would be nice would be a plain piece of glass to protect the front scope lens from being scratched.A good option from the scope companies.

Find a camera store, the cheap ones are like 25 bucks, and play with it some. It is easier to see than to explain. A good one is a night and day differance.

I dont believe a polarized filter will reduce mirage. It will reduce the amount of light that reaches your eye though.

If you are in a "desert" it will help some, but the effect is most noticeable over water. The heat is causing light to reflect in all differant directions. The polarizer get things going in one direction.
