Now it's on to a range finder.

Leaning towards the Leica.  Is the 1600 worth the extra coin over the 1200, not considering the balistics program which means nothing to me?  Does the 1600 range that much further to justify another 200 bucks?  And what does that really translate into as far as ranging critters?

Zeiss Victory PRF vs Leica 1600 head to head...... anyone compared both?  Thoughts?

Zeiss is about 200.00 bucks cheaper right now with their 100.00 rebate.

I realize that there is a $100.00 card on the Zeiss.  I'm more interested in which one or which brand ranges furtherst and most accuratley.

Is the Leica 1600 even available yet?  I have not seen anything on them actually being in peoples hands.

I'm having a hard time justifying the price of one, let alone two!  Just trying to decide which is the best for the dollars spent.

I'll have stroll on over to C a b e l a 's and see if they'd let me take both out side to compare.

The only reason I'm looking at the "long rangers" is that I want whatever I buy to be damn good out to 500 - 600 reguardless if it's reflective, a critter, etc.

Well I have the Leica 1200 and have ranged a deer at 1000 yards.  Elk at 1100 yards.  I had to hold it on something to hold it steady enough, but it works well.

I have ranged trees and rocks beyond 1300 with it.  I have got reading off of just the ground at over 800 yards.  That was sloped ground as well.

The reflective/non reflective is really not an issue with the Leica, it just works.  I had a Leupold and it was a POS because of the whole reflective/non BS.  I hated that thing.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback.  Sounds like the Leica 1200 would be more than good enough.  That model can still be found out there.

+1 on everything ST said above as I've experienced the same with my crf1200 (minus the elk).

A little off track, but have any of you heard of the new G7-BR2 rangefinder?  Almost sounds too good to be true.  Be interesting to see how this one stacks up against the well known big boys of range finders.

If you are curious, google G7-BR2.  I couldn't find out how much beam divergence this unit has, but did find a price........ $1500.00  OUCH!

Back to leaning towards the Leica. Big Smile
