Can't really give any feedback until we know the intended use of the rifle with this optic. Nightforce has a lot of reticles for all kinds of applications ... need that info ...

If you like the BDC style reticles you could check their calculator and see how the "Velocity" reticle would work with your load. The one thing Nightforce reticles don't have is anything with a Thick/heavy hunting style for lower light shots for when your using it for Mule Deer. The Velocity is aobut as "heavy" as they get.
I would say look at the NPR2 - and the Nightforce zero stops are worth the $$$
Nightforce makes nice optics and they are worth the $$$ in my opinion. Most Sheep hunters like a bit more magnification than 10x but thats a personal preference. The 2.5-10 is a great all around mag range and will give you a lot of utility.

You going to use a BDC reticle or are you going to dial your elevation
-If you dial are you going to get a custom turrent for your load
-Will you need another turrent for your mule deer load
-If no custom turrent you going to run MOA or Mils, then what power is the reticle accurate
-If you use a BDC, what power is it accurate at and will it work for sheep
Weight - you gotta pack this thing up the mtn after the sheep - bigger OBJ Variables add weight
If you like the BDC option then you could also consider Ziess Z reticles
Another thing to consider is SFP vs FFP - that is a topic you will have to research and decide for yourself - each has there place and each has advantages. In your application for longer range shots on sheep I would say stick to SFP.
If you like BDC - go Nightforce with Velocity
If your gonna dial - go NPR2
Being as you also want to shoot mule deer - I say get the Velocity as its a little thicker for the lower light shots early in the AM or at dusk. Its a SFP reticle so when taking a 400 yard shot on 10x at sheep it won't get thicker on you. Then when on 2.5 taking a Mule Deer at 100 just hold center and your fine.
If I was in your shoes ... I would set one rifle up for sheep and one for Mule Deer

While the NF 2.5-10X32 doesn't have the world's best glass it has really good glass. I've been running mine for a couple years now on a .308 Remmy LTR and it is an awesome scope. However, it wasn't until I added zero-stop and converted the turrets to match the reticle. (mil/mil). If you shoot out to where you need to go past one turn you will not like owning a Compact NXS NF unless it has zero-stop. There are no turn indications on the compact turrets.
It is a small scope physically, doesn't snag on brush, tracks like a laser and, for me, the standard mil-dot reticle works fine for shots I've taken on running animals @ 35-90 yards and for ranged shots taken out in the 300-400 yard range on antelope, deer and elk. It doesn't bother me that the scope is SFP because it's ranging power (10X) is so low. It is very rugged and never loses zero. It won't be your best choice for low light hunting out past 200 yards, but if you are comfortable with 6X or less it's fine. |

I think one of the most if not the most important characteristic for a hunting scope is the ability to stay zeroed if knocked around. If you fall or drop your rifle and the scope loses zero your screwed at least until you can resight it in. At 2016 SHOT show saw a Nightforce display of used service scopes. One had a bullet hole in it just behind the turrets. The scope retained it's zero such that the guy was able to finish his mission with it.

I have the 2.5-10x42 and like it. It is brighter than the 32 version, tracks true, and has held up well to a fair bit of abuse.
Reticle is personal preference, mine is a mil reticle and mil turret, works great for me. Depending on whether you dial in adjustments or dope the reticle, you might consider a more traditional hunting scope. My lighter weight guns that will see hard use wear swaro scopes mostly, glass is exceptional, I know where rounds hit at range (I like their Christmas tree reticles), and they tend to be much lighter than a tactical scope. And much more streamlined. When comparing a Z6 to an NXS compact, they do similar things in vastly different ways, application and preference determine what is the best option. |

Durability and tracking are the strengths of NightForce scopes but I've never been impressed with the glass quality or reticles offered enough to consider using one on a hunting rifle.

Looking.back.at my.previous reply, I still like the scope. But once I got an SS 3-9X42 for a lot less money and discovered how much I prefer FFP I can't see ever owning one again.
